This is the thread for all your tech news and goss. /. format/styling appreciated, along with links to the original articles.

Panasonic's Blu-ray Recorder To Hit Market In July
"Forbes is reporting that Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. on Wednesday unveiled what it calls the world's first DVD recorder that supports single-side, dual-layer Blu-ray Discs with a maximum capacity of 50 gigabytes.' It looks like Sony's own Blu-ray recorder will now have some competition."

Comments: Hey cool, 50 gigs on a single disc. Now we can bootleg multiple DVDs at once! ;) Just imagine what kind of movies they'll be able to fit onto one tho. And the extra features.

Linux-Powered Auto Parking Car
"A really cool project using a Linux P4 machine for automatic parking of a Volvo S60 was presented last week. Take a look at the video. That's how your parking problem should be solved. It is a final-year student project within the mechanical engineering department at Linköping University, Sweden."

Comment: Well, so much for needing to know how to parallel park. Let's hope it doesn't fail.

Aren't blue laser devices harder to produce, and have a shorter lifespan? I thought that was why they weren't being widely used in the market yet.

From what i read in various comp magazines, the blu rays are going to run around $4 grand apiece. So except for the well funded tech enthuiasts they won't be that common for a few more years. Not til the technology is refined even more anyway.

True, blue ray is expensive. But competition breeds cheapness.
