A notebook and pencil work best. That's just my personal opinion.
Something about the action of writing it down, helps it stick.
I agree with this 100%.

Also agreed. However the problem with writing notes manually is that I can't read them afterward...

Oh yeah, if you're gonna get a laptop and play a few games on it, avoid Widescreen like the plague. Shrinking to 640x480 or lower caused my old Dell's laptop screen to shrink everything to the top half. Normal screens avoid this incompatibility.

I've heard of that problem with Dells... perhaps because of the NVidia cards that most come with? Anyway, I have a widescreen Compaq with a Radeon and have never had a problem (other than that screens are stretched if they don't natively support widescreen). I'm never going back to non-widscreen if I can avoid it.

I prefer desktop for the following reaons:

1- My uni has brilliant IT capabilities (IMO) so if i do need to do some work on a PC i'm practically guarenteed to have access to one on campus.
2- Someone i know had their laptop nicked by someone just walking into their room and picking it up when they left thier door open. That ain't gonna happen with a desktop.
3- I'm more used to desktop

I've found that some laptops scale the image and some don't.

Me too. (Except for the not reading part.)

And I've never had a problem with my Dell desktop. Works like a charm. I can't vouch for their laptops, though.
