Format C:\ and install Linux. :P

Seriously, get all updates, and configure a restricted user account for day to day usage, dump IE and get Firefox, enable WinXP firewall, etc. We need a security checklist sticky in G&C

FireFox! FireFox!

Beware of that Windows built in firewall, it screws up almost all of my games except Age of Empires (which is, ironically, made by Microsoft...coincidence?)...

And while avoiding the Windows firewall, don't forget ZoneAlarm. :)

But uh, security...since you're on a laptop and are probably gonna connect to wireless hotspots, rename your workgroup to something oddball that only you would know. And on optimization, ensure that you leave only what you need on the laptop. Sometimes the factory preinstalls really USELESS software that will probably suck up your laptop's memory and you wouldn't really know about it.[/url]
