Can you post the whole log? The header is missing.

Also there's a 1.98 version that is fully up to date.

Just to add-on to what Einy said....
Zac Naloen wrote:Running processes:
C:\Program Files\TGTSoft\StyleXP\StyleXPService.exe
Totally unnecessary. Download
Boot into safe mode and replace the original located in your Windows/System32 and /Windows/ServicePackFiles and \WINDOWS\system32\dllcache directories and reboot. (You'll have to rename the originals since Windows won't allow you to delete them.) You can use ANY XP theme you want without any bloated POS running in the background. (This is completely legal as this dll file was generated by a beta version of Style XP, and last I checked there are no laws against distributing system files.)
C:\Program Files\ASUS\Probe\AsusProb.exe
Completely unnecessary. Kill it.
C:\Program Files\Messenger Plus! 2\MsgPlus.exe
Again, unnecessary. Download Miranda IM and use whatever message service you want. (There are updated plugins available on the site so be sure to download them once you get Miranda IM installed. For example: Yahoo changed their logon scheme, and you couldn't logon unless you downloaded the updated DLL off of the Miranda IM site.)
C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe
C:\Program Files\Java\j2re1.4.2_04\bin\jusched.exe
C:\Program Files\MusicMatch\MusicMatch Jukebox\mmtask.exe
C:\Program Files\MUSICMATCH\MUSICMATCH Jukebox\mm_tray.exe
Kill them.

C:\Program Files\TGTSoft\StyleXP\StyleXP.exe
See above with the DLL file I provided. Then uninstall Style XP.
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe
Kill that evil fucker! Matter of fact, uninstall that bloated POS and use Real! Alternative.

Mind I post my short log here? I don't want to start a new thread.
I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in his stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Counciler or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate, who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who constantly says: "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I cannot agree with your methods of direct action"; who paternalistically believes he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by a mythical concept of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait for a "more convenient season."

I was considering posting my log as well. It might be a good idea to have a dedicated thread for this. This thread has a descriptive enough name. Why not make it this one?

I just (as in like three minutes ago) got Hijackthis, and my log looks pretty lengthy; I'm sure there's lots o' shit to be nuked. If indeed people don't mind helping out poor saps like me, I think this would be a good thread for posting logs.
Also, to make me less helpless, what kind of stuff should I be looking for on the log? Some of the extra programs are killable, but some are necessary, no? Is it just one of those things that takes experience to know, or is there a simple way of figuring out which is which?

Here's my log, just for fun. Any help would be hot:

Also, to make me less helpless, what kind of stuff should I be looking for on the log? Some of the extra programs are killable, but some are necessary, no? Is it just one of those things that takes experience to know, or is there a simple way of figuring out which is which?

Here's my log, just for fun. Any help would be hot:

Umm... Run SpybotSD, let it kill whatever it wants, then run HJT again please. There's a lot that SSD can do here.

I ran SpybotSD, and it cleared out a bunch of shit, but then it ran into an error. On subsequent scans, it keeps finding a few files (the same ones each time) and running into the same error before completing. Here's the SpybotSD log:

I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in his stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Counciler or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate, who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who constantly says: "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I cannot agree with your methods of direct action"; who paternalistically believes he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by a mythical concept of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait for a "more convenient season."

Remove. These are trojans.
After you remove them, delete everything in your C:\WINDOWS\TEMP directory, and search out those other two files and remove them as well.

Other crap you don't need to be running:
O2 - BHO: Yahoo! Companion BHO - {02478D38-C3F9-4efb-9B51-7695ECA05670} - C:\PROGRAM FILES\YAHOO!\COMPANION\INSTALLS\CPN\YCOMP5_3_12_0.DLL <<< You really want Yahoo Companion?
O3 - Toolbar: &Yahoo! Companion - {EF99BD32-C1FB-11D2-892F-0090271D4F88} - C:\PROGRAM FILES\YAHOO!\COMPANION\INSTALLS\CPN\YCOMP5_3_12_0.DLL <<< You use the Yahoo Toolbar?

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [UpdReg] C:\WINDOWS\Updreg.exe <<< You don't need a reminder to register.
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [LoadQM] loadqm.exe <<< This is for MSN Explorer and MSN Messenger. If you don't use them, get rid of them.
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [WorksFUD] C:\Program Files\Microsoft Works\wkfud.exe <<< I can't imagine this is anything important.
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Microsoft Works Portfolio] C:\Program Files\Microsoft Works\WksSb.exe /AllUsers <<< Waste of memory.
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MotiveMonitor] C:\Program Files\Motive\motmon.exe <<< HP 'Let me look at your system' support software. Get rid of it.
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [BJCFD] C:\Program Files\BroadJump\Client Foundation\CFD.exe <<< You don't need this.
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [tgcmd] "C:\Program Files\Support.com\bin\tgcmd.exe" /server /startmonitor /deaf <<< You don't need this.
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SSRunScript] "C:\Program Files\Support.com\Charter\bin\SSRunScript.exe" /script "C:\Program Files\Support.com\Charter\vbs\verifyconnection.vbs" /args //b startupdelay <<< You don't need this.
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\QTTASK.EXE" -atboottime <<< Waste of memory.
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [HPHUPD05] C:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\{45B6180B-DCAB-4093-8EE8-6164457517F0}\hphupd05.exe <<< You don't need to auto-check for updates or launch HP wizards, do you?
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [HP Software Update] "C:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\HP Software Update\HPWuSchd.exe" <<< Ditto.
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TkBellExe] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe" -osboot <<< Real checking for updates. Get rid of it.
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [SSDPSRV] C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\ssdpsrv.exe <<< This is the UPnP discovery service. Disable it by running services.msc and disabling the SSDP Discovery Service. A waste of resources.
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [MoneyAgent] "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Money\System\Money Express.exe" <<< You probably don't need parts of MS Money running constantly.
O4 - Startup: Microsoft Office.lnk = C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\OSA9.EXE <<< Waste of memory.
O4 - Startup: Microsoft Works Calendar Reminders.lnk = C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Works Shared\wkcalrem.exe <<< Waste of memory
O4 - Startup: RealDownload.lnk = C:\Program Files\Real\RealDownload\REALDOWNLOAD.EXE <<< Waste of memory
O4 - Startup: hp instant support.lnk = C:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\hpis\bin\matcli.exe <<< Waste of memory.
These all clutter up context menus, file menus, and toolbars:
