My printer won't print correctly

Post by StarshipTitanic »

I recently connected an old HP DeskJet 500C to my computer. The drivers from my 98SE disc went in fine and it printed a test page perfectly. I then tried to print a 22 page document, and by the fourth page it only printed a few lines of random ASCII symbols. :x

How long's the cable between the computer and printer, and is it securely attached at both ends?

I'd guess it's about 5' long and I tightened the screws.

Try seeing if HP have a different driver available and install that. Printers are fiddly little buggers.

I did, and their website said that the 98SE disc has the most current driver. I'll try reinstalling it.

Ok, I think I may have fixed it by installing the wrong drivers...any record of this happening with HP printers before?

EDIT: Nope, I merely made it work fine for a while and then die.

Could this be related to some harddrive damage I have? There are some physical errors on it and it's way past defragging.

It sounds like a driver/computer issue. If you can, try the printer on another computer. That will narrow it down pretty quick. Otherwise, let the HP go and get a new printer.
