How can anyone stand BitTorrent?
I recently downloaded BitTorrent. It sounds like something nice in theory, but for some unknown reason it keeps momentarily disconnecting my WLAN connection. I checked the FAQ. They say the problem exists, and there is basically no solution for reliably dealing with it in Windows.
If it doesn't disconnect ... hell, if only it can be programmed to Automatically Reconnect and continue, I'd forgive it.
So do you guys have any special methods for
1) Reliably getting that program to stop disconnecting my WLAN for a few seconds (after which it reconnects automatically, but then it's too late)
or
2) Just making it hook up again and continue without human intervention.
I need those abilities so I can get BitTorrent to download files AT NIGHT. Now, I have to keep looking after it and restarting connections.
Thanks.

i've been using bittorrent with little to no problems for awhile now. however the key is not to use the default client. get BitTornado instead. it's so much nicer than the regular bittorrent client.

You CAN continue a bittorrent download from where it left off when you get disconnected... just select it to save to the location you originally started downloading.Kazuaki Shimazaki wrote:I recently downloaded BitTorrent. I want it to be automatic, so I can actually do it while I'm sleeping.Zac Naloen wrote:You CAN continue a bittorrent download from where it left off when you get disconnected... just select it to save to the location you originally started downloading.
The issue is so prevalent the BitTorrent guys linked themselves to a FAQ which basically says the problem does exist, and that there is no reliable solution.BTW, i have no problems with my WLAN, i wasn't even aware there was an issue
Sometimes the little fucker disables my WLAN, so I can't even restart my download without restarting my computer.
And they want me to donate to their cause.

Simple answer, use third party software. Bit Tornado is good.

Other than the above problem, what about this?
I'm getting the "not authorized for this tracker" error message and it confusing the hell outta me.
I mean, not connecting to peers and like is routine, and I count it a miracle if I get above 15kbps, but this???

I kind of understand why the maker
... only wants donations. If such a flawed, unreliable product has to be bought, he'd be covered head to toe in complaints and lawsuits.
I'm thinking ... if he ever makes an edition of BitTorrent that is reliable, I'd donate US$30 to his cause.

Sometimes, it just seems that everybody else seems to be getting a better deal out of BT than I am. I introduced it to my sarge, he gets manga at 40kbps, even though the only thing he knew was "download BT, find BT files".Kazuaki Shimazaki wrote:... only wants donations. Shit...Kazuaki Shimazaki wrote:BitTornado is also kicking me off on semi-regular intervals.Zac Naloen wrote:Simple answer, use third party software. Bit Tornado is good.
Try Bitspirit then. If that's kicking you off, then maybe it's the BT protocol interacting with something in Windows badly that's killing WLAN connections. You did mention that sometimes you have to reboot the comp to get the WLAN working again, so that's what leans me toward that idea...

That must be your problem. I don't know shit about BitTorrent, but it works for me.PainRack wrote:I introduced it to my sarge, he gets manga at 40kbps, even though the only thing he knew was "download BT, find BT files".

Odd, I've been running BitTorrent basically 24/7 for more then a year now and I've had very few problems. The only time I had to start a download from the beginning again was after a blackout, other then that on the couple of occasions the program or the computer has chrashed I've been able to pick up where I left off.
Use Azureus. It is thoust savior.
Are you sure it's not some problem with your router or whatever, if you have one? Or what kind of connection are you on? Anyway, if you're on a router, you have to forward at least one port to your comp.
Anyway, Azureus pwnz. I've downloaded gigabytes upon gigabytes of stuff with it and it hasn't failed a single time.

Some trackers do not like certain clients, either due to bandwidth exploits or security. However, sometimes you'll get that error even if you have some other connection problem.PainRack wrote:Other than the above problem, what about this?

"Right now we can tell you a report was filed by the family of a 12 year old boy yesterday afternoon alleging Mr. Michael Jackson of criminal activity. A search warrant has been filed and that search is currently taking place. Mr. Jackson has not been charged with any crime. We cannot specifically address the content of the police report as it is confidential information at the present time, however, we can confirm that Mr. Jackson forced the boy to listen to the Howard Stern show and watch the movie Private Parts over and over again."

I'm sticking with BitSpirit. The computer still kicks me off occasionally, but at least it seems to have a superior ability to auto-recover than the others. Of course, maybe it is because my reduced expectations are giving it more time to recover. Oh well. At least it shows more cool little details than the others.Einhander Sn0m4n wrote:Try Bitspirit then. You see, I really have low standards. I don't understand why BitTorrent can't even meet that.
The most annoying part of BitTorrent (when it works reliably) is that you can be only one piece short of all those thousands in a file, but no one else has it because no one feels obliged to put even one complete copy on, and you are stuck.

I've never had a problem with Azureus. When I just used normal Bit Torrent, it never kicked me off, but it slowed my connection down like hell. Now I have Azureus dling 24/7, totalling many gigabytes every week, and I don't have to do anything to keep it up other than tell it what to dl.
And you may ask yourself, 'Where does that highway go to?'

Same here. No problems to speak of other than someone elses' corrupt torrent rebooting my box.Sir Sirius wrote:Odd, I've been running BitTorrent basically 24/7 for more then a year now and I've had very few problems. IIRC, there is a mechanism to request a reseed in BT to get those missing parts, but I don't recall how to do it.Kazuaki Shimazaki wrote:The most annoying part of BitTorrent (when it works reliably) is that you can be only one piece short of all those thousands in a file, but no one else has it because no one feels obliged to put even one complete copy on, and you are stuck.
Azereus is great, but I also hear good things about g3torrent. Its amazing for a Java application.Robert Treder wrote:I've never had a problem with Azureus.
