X11 color correction[now need PCI video card]

Post by Pu-239 »

I have an old monitor with a slightly greenish tint, and adjusting the gamma doesn't work on white. Is there any way to compensate for this, or am I stuck? (greenish tint is an eyesore). Essentially I need to adjust brightness for the colors seperately.

EDIT: Evidently, either I fix this or I need to get a PCI graphics card. Does anyone have one (preferably nVidia- I despise ATI, esp on Linux). I'll probably won't buy it for awhile, but it would be nice to know someone has one if/when I decide to get one.

I've had a tv which did that. There is most likely a problem with the coloring system which isn't fixable at a reasonable rate. Your best bet is to just get another monitor.

Unfortunately it's difficult to justify getting another monitor just for it to be my secondary... though I could trade mine for my sisters... it would seem so easy to fix if the software supported it though- just turn down the brightness on green and blue (the red electron gun still works, just a little weak- seems to be the first one to fail).

Gah what's even more irritating is that the Linux nVidia driver has a setting to adjust this, but the damn monitor is hooked up to the ATi one(I want my better monitor to be my primary along with the card that actually has decent acceleration), which has nothing (since ATi drivers suck, proprietary or nonproprietary).

Great. It gets even better- one cannot use the ATI Rage Pro as a secondary display adapter- http://www.ati.com/support/infobase/3663.html under Windows  . Fortunately I run Linux (have little use for dual head when gaming with stuff that does not support it), but it's still rather stupid, and reinforces my low opinion of ATI (however undeserved or deserved it may be).

Ah fuck, it looks like the stupid video card is the source of the problem. Anyone have a PCI graphics card lieing around (preferably nVidia)?

Don't need anything accelerated- just need a PCI card to hook a 2nd monitor to, no acceleration required. Anyone have one they are willing to sell for under 20 (I'm having a problem finding them on places other than Ebay)?
