I've got something wrong with my system. I have pop-up adds that appear for no reason. Also my computer constnatly think I am not online and I have to click work offline to keep working on the internet.
Any particular anti-spyware programs I need to run? And what versions?
Links would be helpful

get the latest versions of CWShreddar, Ad Aware, and Spybot Search & Destroy. each one will pick up problems the others won't. also be sure to run Hijack This. there's a few dozen links to it floating about on the forum at least.

Whee that one was fun!
Also, I know i've mentioned this before, guys but I'm going to keep plugging away.
(Thanks be to Einhander for making me aware of this)
Okay, so I had a virus. Everytime I would open this certain folder (Called Crap on my comp, cause that's where I put shit I don't want to delete, but it's sufficiently useless so as not to hace a place in C:/program files or desktop) this Virus would eat a file. No, seriously. it would infect a file, and I would have to delete the file with Virus scanner to save my comp. It also happened on startup. I would get rid of the virus, only to hae the same one show up again and force me to eat a file. Well, I knew I had to get this shit fixed before I lost my hard drive to attrition.
So I posted in the chatroom about it. Einhander almost right away asked if I had system restore on. "Yep."
TURN IT OFF. Apparently......it was literally making a backup of the virus somehow and everytime I restarted, the virus was actually still there..... after turning off system restore, and deleting the whole damned contents of the sys restore folder, running spyware scanner, and anti-virus, *plink* Good to go, no more virus.

Well I managed to remove that Webserach crap. I think that was part of the problem. Fucking auto installers.

Actually, I have the same problem myself, I get like fifteen popups the instant I open IE, but get nothing in FireFox, which is why that's my favorite solution.
Well I ran an uninstall on all the Websearch crap and it removed half of what Ein suggested. I removed the rest. I think the problem might be gone.
Thanks everyone.
BTW, no closing the thread. Just let it die a natural death.
