WTF is he talking about? "Understand, the security problems are caused by third-party viruses, spyware, malware, etc. that have been designed specifically to exploit serious weaknesses in the browser we created."Crayz9000 wrote:USA Today Interview with Bill Gates

That would make me feel so much better if I got a serious Trojan on my machine after running IE--knowing that the Trojan wasn't a Microsoft program.

I'd be happier if it was a Microsoft program. Less chance of it working properly.Master of Ossus wrote: That would make me feel so much better if I got a serious Trojan on my machine after running IE--knowing that the Trojan wasn't a Microsoft program.

WARNING: CATEGORY 3 RANT. LANDFALL IMMINENT!
Okay Billy, how, pray tell, does the THIRD-PARTY SOFTWARE appear on a system running IE? Does it appear out of thin air due to random bit-flipping from fucking Cosmic Ray Fairies? Does it get installed by the USER?
WRONG, YOU MONOPOLISTIC GREEDY MOTHERFUCKING ASSTARDED GRABASTATIC FUCKHEAD PIECE OF AMPHIBIAN SHIT! IT COMES FROM MALICIOUS WEBSITES WHICH TAKE ADVANTAGE OF SECURITY FLAWS (FUNNY HOW THEY'RE ALMOST ALWAYS CRITICAL CODE-EXECUTION SPLOITS AND EXTREMELY EASY FOR VXERS TO CODE FOR, TOO!) IN YOUR FUCKING IE BROWSER!!! AND WHY ARE THEY ALMOST ALWAYS CRITICAL ANYWAY!? HOW MANY MORE SPLOITS IN YOUR WINDOWS OS ARE THERE WE DON'T KNOW ABOUT? HOW LONG WILL IT BE TILL PEOPLE START THINKING YOU'RE PUTTING THE SHIT IN WINDOWS ON PURPOSE TO KEEP THE SPYWARE COMPANIES IN BUSINESS AND WORSHIPING YOUR PATHETIC STUPID LITTLE IMPOTENT COCK!!? C'MON, A JPEG SPLOIT!? HOW OBVIOUSLY MORE PAYOLA CAN YOU POSSIBLY GET, FUCKTARD!?
Next computer I get runs Linux exclusively, Mr. Gates. Your OS is too buggy and insecure, it's not even worth the price of the CD-R it's usually found pirated on! You are the disease... And we are the Cure.

Well, there are Mac ports of most of those games. Get a Mac, dual boot it with Linux, use whichever you perfer. No "Designed for Windows" stickers, you can play most games using OS X (even on Mac-on-Linux), and run Linux software.Ace Pace wrote:And quite funnyJediNeophyte wrote:

I wonder why with IE I kept getting problems which dissapered with Mozilla. I mean I use the exact same "third-party software" supposedly. Oh wait, thats right, Mozilla don't use the "open-door policy" to people on the internet. BTW, how many hate emails does Gates get? I'm sure he has a very good email blocker by now. Won't sell it though.

Re: Gates: IE flaws are due to third-party software
It isn't really about money for Gates, it's about control. He, along with his Microsoft cohorts, believe that they are the best ones to decide the future of the computer industry and they aren't anxious to let that power go. Most of the powerful figures in the computer world (Larry Ellison, Steve Jobs, Craig Barret, Carly Fiorina) follow a similar line of thinking, but none of them have a vice around the standards of the computer world that is nearly as tight as Microsoft.bohemianfey wrote:He's actually really nice. There is nothing inherently wrong with Microsoft as a company or Bill Gates as an individual, they merely are in the position of having total control, thus they don't have competition to drive them harder to improve their products. Notice that Microsoft's biggest weaknesses are in the area where it is relatively unchallenged (Windows, Office products), but in everything else they are extremely competative and use their strengths well to compensate for their weaknesses. What Microsoft (and indeed, the entire computer industry needs) is other large corporations to start putting pressure on Microsoft in order to force them into making their flagship products competative.
Rumor has it that Intel has been working on an alternative to Windows for some years now out of anger towards Microsoft for not supporting new Intel standards (IA-64 being the most obvious) and that they have used this as a bargaining tool to get Microsoft to get its act together with Windows. Their motives behind this may not be philanthropic, but in order to put pressure of Microsoft to change, a few small startups aren't going to do it; we need a bunch of larger industry leaders (IBM, HP, Intel) to standup and form a united front against Redmond's stranglehold on the market in order to push back with enough intertia to dislodge Microsoft from its position of power. This WILL happen sooner or later, but right now the politics of the situation is complicated and Microsoft is very good at playing to this lack of unity among these companies.

Personal email? I doubt he has a personal email addy open to the public. Those that are "open" are probably read beforehand by a bunch of employees before being filtered and those deemed acceptable sent up to the big man.

Anywho, this reminds me of the irony that the programs Microsoft Windows has the hardest time running are Microsoft programs. Third party applications are to blame? It's the first party shit that can't work together right.

Downloading third-party software because your piece-of-shit BROWSER allows it to download and install behind your fucking back yeahQ: Speaking of security, Internet Explorer has had well-publicized holes …

Oh, HTML is probably third party too. Especially since IE can't even work with proper, clean, HTML and instead tried to force it's own proprietary HTML tags upon people, which miserably failed fortunately, so suck it Gates
