Hmm...this makes Torch a bit fuzzy to play. Anyone have a clue where Torch's three wormhole junctions lead? Aside from a vague reference to 'somewhere around Mesa' for one of the three termini, I don't see any clarification on the matter, and that'll drastically affect how I play them.

But seriously, aside from Mesa they don't seem to lead anywhere really important. Considering it's a third world nation itself I'd be suprised if it lead anywhere better.

Well, by the end of Crown of Slaves, there'd been no time for them to explore the junction there, and 'Verdant Vista' wasn't a star nation at all, so third world or no doesn't really apply. We know at least one leads to (or near to) the Solarian League, albeit in Mesa's neighborhood, and that alone is fairly significant. Anyone know if Weber's infodumped on that yet?

Actually, it's not. Torch was relatively worthless real estate to start with and nothing's changed that. Mesa is probably the most signficant planet it comes near. And even then I'd say it most likely isn't in the best neighborhood. It's referenced in Crown of Slaves that the only vague idea anyone has of the termini is that one leads near to Mesa, and in one of the Saganami chapters published online (10, in fact, if you want to check at the Baen Bar), it's mentioned that either Manpower never even explored them, or they destroyed the records before being massacred on Congo. So no, they're not mapped at all, which is distressing.

As for the terminus, I think it more likely the records were simply destroyed. Because barring Acts of Plot, it doesn't seem there's much to Torch. At the very least it doesn't seem to be worth noting on the big map.

Well, it's fairly rich in pharmaceuticals and such, so once the Torches get a humane harvesting industry set up, that could form the backbone of a decent economy. It only didn't before because Mesa was stripping that stuff off of the planet and selling it themselves. Still leaves the blasted Junction as a wildcard, though.

I know about Torch. I own the book. I'm just pointing out it's hardly worldshaker on it's own. I hope Saganami clears that up, I've got a fallback plan for how to RP the lack of knowledge in the mean time, though, so it's not a gamebreaker. I'll get to working up my own OOB, on the offchance that we actually get to play this. Sounds like this is probably about six months to a year after CoS ends?

Attempts to obtain destroyer-class ships either from Silesian or Solarian sources, again via Anti-Slavery League contacts.

Audobon Ballroom:
Responsible for both the lion's share of the nascent nation's ground forces and that same nation's intelligence service, the former terrorist organization's gunmen are deadly shots with light armaments, but have little experience with either heavy weapons or anything beyond small-unit engagements and guerilla tactics.
'Amazons' and other genies:
Torch possesses a small corps of both 'Scrags,' genetically-engineered supersoldiers descended from Earth's final war, and immigrants from the Mfecane worlds of the Solarian League. The Mfecane genome is extraordinarily strong, fast, and durable, and the worlds themselves are both heavy-grav and very harsh in terms of social climate. The Torch armed forces, and particularly ground forces, are lead by Thandi Palane, a former Solarian League Marine and a Mfecane immigrant.
-Intelligence:
While not known for subtlety, the Audobon Ballroom's fanatic devotion to the destruction of Mesa has lead to the development of unquestionable skill in infiltration and information-gathering. While they have no formal operational structure, Thandi Palane was formerly an intelligence 'black ops' specialist for a Solarian League faction, and hence provides perhaps the best central authority on the subject outside of the Ballroom organization itself.
More detailed information to follow when I have a better idea of how many months Torch has had to get on its feet and get its act together. That's the rub of a brand new nation
