Firefox 1.0 Released

Post by Archaic` »

Download via BitTorrent

Good luck if you want a direct download. Don't bother trying to load the site, it's slow enough as it is, and it'll be even slower once someone slashdots it. Your best bet is this Google cache of download mirrors. HTTP ones are useless, but most of the FTP's have the 1.0 release up and active by now.

Got it and no problem in accessing the firefox homepage.

Any noticeable differences between the pre-release?

Really, REALLY hope they fixed the freakin huge memory leak I keep running into. I could drive the Nimitz through it, sometimes. Firefix was getting really, REALLY slow after I got home from work, so I pop up task manager, glance at HOLY CRAP WHAT'S USING 300 MEGS OF PHYSICAL MEMORY!

The leak was fixed in RC2 I believe. As for differences....none really noticable, but under the surface, there's a lot of bug fixes, especially if you've been using the Preview Release up until now. Not having half your extensions work until they're updated for 1.0 might be annoying though.

Oh, BITCHTITS!

Half of my extensions aren't supported and I can't find a version of the Noia theme for Firefox 1.0 either.

When the server gets the load let off for a little bit later try getting user agent switcher and see if that helps.

Read about a work-around for that: go to your profile (probably C:\Documents and Settings\[user]\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\[your profile] in XP), open the extensions directory, and edit Extensions.rdf changing all the "maxVersion=" to 1.0 or higher. Worked for me!

Where would I be likely to find that on linux?

I don't know where your profile is stored, probably somewhere under your home directory. Find the extensions subdirectory; the file should be there.

I hope they fix the "Find as you type" feature. I love to use it to find things on a huge page but it won't work well if I try to type something like right now.
I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in his stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Counciler or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate, who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who constantly says: "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I cannot agree with your methods of direct action"; who paternalistically believes he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by a mythical concept of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait for a "more convenient season."
