Newell told the crowd that, under the current system, most developers make only about $7 for each game they sell. But an online distribution platform like Steam--which cuts out the middleman and delivers a game directly to the consumer's desktop--could net developers more than $30 per copy.
7 dollars a copy versus 30 dollars a copy? That's more than quadrupling profits!
Anyone have the numbers on copies pre-ordered and copies purchased over steam.

On the other hand, they won't see any profit from people who lost their cd. Though I've only purchased 3 copies of half-life... so I guess steam still makes them more money!
