Warhammer 40k custom character opinions
For several reasons I plan on building a Tau Human Aux. Army, using the new Imperial Guard Doctrines. The colours and units will be Star Wars themed, and I intend for my commander to be Gen. Grievous inspired. Before I spend money getting bits to create an expensive custom character, though, I made a very crude mock-up of what he might look like.
Linkification.
The contents are:
1 Chaos Space marine Raptor (Body and legs)
1 Necron (Head)
Various Tau bitz (Various)
1 Iron Hands Space Marine prosthetic sword-arm thing. (Prosthetic sword-arm)
Some Green Stuff (Cape)
Comments would be greatly appreciated.

Personally i don't like the Tau Stealth Suit Burstcannon (if that's what it is) on his arm, or a flying Imperial Guard commander, but apart from that, not bad.

Personally i'd prefer it if you converted the raptor legs so that he's just standing but if you can't be arsed or just plain can't i'll understand.

The head and the sword look good, but the body still looks a bit odd in place with the legs.

I see the problem...they are all virtually the same, and not much variation in determining.Pcm979 wrote:Here's the full range of possible base figures.
Well, in light of that...it works well enough. Still looks funky but barring full customization, it's good enough.

Revised idea:
Base figure: Necron Immortal
Alterations: Remove shoulderpads and 'spine', attatch General Grevious 'ears', replace feet with feet from the Tau Stealth Trooper, replace huge gun with powersword, mould cape from Green Stuff.
Thoughts?

You might want to use some non-40k parts.
For instance, I used some cheapo hallowwen plastic scorpion parts to make my Chaos cruiser into a demon ship.
You could probably use some Yugioh or Gundam toy parts from Walmart for less than half the cost of a 40k model, and then you can place the 40k parts on it. This is cheaper and also reduces the problems caused by recognizability of the necron parts, etc. And then you can afford to make more.
The trick is in painting the figures to hide the seams and make them look like a unit.
