I Need To Be a Spy...

Post by CorSec »

Okay, not me really but a friend. The short story is he wants to know what his wife does on the computer when no one is around to look over her shoulder. I mentioned a keylogger to him but I don't have any experience using the plethora of programs that are out there.

Have any of you ever used one or know of someone who has and/or do you have a recommendation as to which program is best? It doesn't need all the bells and whistles, the simpler the better.

He might try asking her. Just a thought. :P
And you may ask yourself, 'Where does that highway go to?'

I don't think he trusts her to tell the truth ;)

Theres plenty out there. A google search should help you more than anyone here can.

I'm not sure if it's entirely ethical to answer this.

Spying on someone isn't in itself unethical, it depends on what you do with the information.

I mean it sounds like there is some domestic distrust going on here.

There are deeper problems with that relationship if the husband cannot ask the wife what she's doing.

it may be that he doesn't want to ask her without proof, you know... if he comes out with something before theres proof. which she'll in all likelyhood deny theres not much he can then do about it, is there?

CorSec never mentioned any problem that would lead to this. He just said his friend wants to spy on his wife, no reason given. Sounds more like a lack of trust to me. I had a similar situation with my brother.

Well, sometimes Google can be a fickle mistress. One has to know what to say to her to get the right responses. My first attempt netted a number of specific programs. But without any experience I thought I'd try picking the brains of people I knew before jumping in with both feet. Sad to say, but in the group I work with I am the "computer genius" and I didn't want to blindly recommend a program.

You know what's great? The SubSeven virus. Seriously. Download the client and server, configure and create your own SubSeven with your password and custom port number, infect her computer, then monitor from your computer running the client.

Its also terrific way to blow your cover, since any half-decent AV program will detect it.

There a multitude of keyloggers out there. I don't know any good ones, since I've never had to use one though.

They'll never suspect that you purposely infected it :p virus infections happen all the time... But yeah, the AV program will kill it.
