TW Engine and Middle Earth

Post by Stravo »

Now imagine ROme TW with Middel Earth setting. You can play as Rohan, Gondor, Mordor, Isengaard. The possibilties are endless. My God can you imagine events like:

"The Ring has been found in the possession of someone in Rohan. Ringwariths are on the move" (It's randomized to avoid players camping armies out in the shire waiting for the event) Now you have increased chances of running into Ringwraiths.

Another event would give you the option of attending the council of Elrond and sending your best hero unit on the Quest.

You can play the First Age and take the role of the Elves, Man or even Morgoth.

God I hope someone can mod something like that. Imagining the Battle of the Pelennor Fields with RTW engine.

BTW anyone heard any positive advance word for Battle for Middle Earth game coming out?

Unless you're the Vanyar elves under Eonwë, you have roughly a snowball's chance in hell of winning.

And if you're them, it's the other way around.

Just to be visceral, I'd rather see it with something like the Kingdom Under Fire engine.

Because although it has less in the way of large scale tactical engagement, you get a good mix between ordering troops around and jumping in there and chopping bits off of people.

The Last Alliance would be good though. It's about the only time in Middle Earth where the bad guys couldn't stamp all over the good guys.

Rather predictably, EA's Battle for Middle Earth has been marked as a poor effort (73%, if you believe in percentage reviews), at least by my old regular PC-mag, and they were usually reasonably accurate in their assessments. Bit of a downer, I was holding on to the vague hope that it might be some good.

It would be amazing to be able to see the first release of the dragons and the seige of thangorodrim amongst other things, it's been a while since I read the Silmarillion though, so I can't remember if it could all be incorporated into a plausible scenario.

This site has the PC mag reviews for it listed: http://www.rpgplanet.com/memw/temp/b4me ... ores.shtml

EDIT: However, the other UK local effort has it down as good (91%), but doesnt identify half of the problems that the other one looked at. Damn. Will have to check the demo when it shows up.

I'm pretty sure a mod is already in the works, Stravo. And EA's game wouldn't compare even if it was good, since it's an RTS, which Rome is not.
