I Can Not Sneak - nexus help

Post by Stark »

Bloody games with needless 'sneaking' gameplay bother me. Specially when they don't tell you what you're supposed to do. So... has anyone finished this? I've got to point 12, 25ish away from the base, but because you've got to turn your cloak off every 5 minutes, I get busted. I'm always at a nav point when I decloak, but the closer to the base I get the more likely I get spotted.

How effective is the cloak, anyway? Do you just ignore the turrets and ships, or should you stay away from them? Bah, a pox on sneaking!

The cloak's quite effective, but you have to pit-stop at /red/ nav-points to hide yourself. Don't stay long or you'll burn out systems from the radiation there, as soon as your cloak goes down when you get near it, you can start to leave and that 30-second cloak-down timer will be finished before you get clear. Wait til the radiation symbol on the HUD goes to green before you try to turn the cloak back on, though, or it won't work. That was one of the game's more obnoxious, less well-made missions. Oh, and when the shit hits the fan, just play along, don't despair. Trust me.

I completed it finally; you can decloak at the blue ones so long as noones within 10 and the engines are off. Such an annoying mission.

In the next one I'm fighting the bloody 'behaviour' settings, because after I've snuck round the back and approached the base, I want to charge my shield before I decloak and destroy the IP blocker... excpet if I'm in stealth it keeps turning off the shield, and in defence it keeps decloaking. Even in 'focus' it doesn't leave my bloody settings alone. Can I stop the AI changing any of my settings?

The problem is that you're using Focus and not actually issuing specific orders. You want to control every aspect of what a ship does, move via the manual control panel, not standard right-click. There're three desired range icons at the right-hand side of the manual control panel, click one (usually short) and then the target, and it issues a pure movement order. Otherwise you're specifically telling the AI to take over. In effect, you're giving it conflicting instructions.
