Best way to return to 40K?

Post by Flakin »

Guys, I've been reading all the 40K related posts here, the RPG included and its whetted my appetite to get back into tabletop gaming. Its probably been almost 7 or 8 years since I last played... Emigrating to the states and stuff I just kind of let everything slide away and gave all my minitures to a friend. For my wargaming fixes I turned to starcraft etc.

I was a big player of the Epic 40K battles (Both the original rules and the 'Space Marine' rerelease) and had a good sized Space Marine / Imperial Guard army with that. Is that still around in any significant form? I saw a small entry about it on GW's website but it looks like its kind of been pushed aside?

For the regular 40K I had an Ork Battlegroup, that I really had fun with.

I'm guessing my question really is, for a returning player - whats the "best" army to have (as in easiest to pick up and go), whats the biggest rule changes and is Epic still around in a playable form? (In that, am I likely to be able to find an opponent anywhere?)

Thanks in Advance.

No idea about Epic. It's taken a backstage to the main game and BFG. For just jumping right in, the answer will always be Space Marines, especially now that their spiffy brand new codex and plethora of massively awesome new miniatures have been released.

the Epic rules are also available as free downloads from the Specialist Games' website.

Epic is still around but if you haven't played 40K in over 7 years boy are you going to be surprised at the rules changes.

Just about any army is good to just pick up and go, and there's a lot more plastic sets now so the core of your army is going to be alittle cheaper.
