If there are any players of that classic game, XWing v. Tie Fighter, and who know how to get it to work in Win2k, I could use some advice.
I've gotten the game to start to run, running the filename with the ishost after it. This much isn't all that unfamiliar to those who run it in Win2k. The problem now is with the joystick: it won't recognize it. Windows recognizes it, and it works under XWing Alliance, but XvT just won't recognize it, and won't launch.
I'm using a Microsoft Sidewinder Precision 2, if it matters. It seems as though MS stopped making drivers for it after Win98, but it still works in other programs.
Anyone have any advice? Or at least sympathy?

This is the reason why I never use NT kernel for games.. But wait, your stick works for other games on W2K? I dunno' but have you applied XvT latest patch? IIRC my friend playing XvT w/ BoP on his WinXP system, and he ain't got no trouble so far.SCRawl wrote:Or at least sympathy?

I managed to fix the problem, by running the BoP executable instead of the XvT executable. Why that helps I guess I'll never know, but it does.
In related news, the frankenstein system I've been putting together won't run the game in the actual combat part of the game -- it goes to the datapad screens, but when it comes time to go to the ships, it craps out. That one's a trickier problem, and will likely be solved by not being able to use it on that computer.
Thanks for your input.

IIRC the BoP are patched to the last version, but for people ain't fortunate enough to get one, LucasArts still provide last pacth for XvT (sans BoP).SCRawl wrote:I managed to fix the problem, by running the BoP executable instead of the XvT executable.
