Anybody up for an FSTGOD?

Post by Rogue 9 »

We're starting a fantasy setting STGOD over at my board. It's in the hammering-out stages still, but we need more players to make an STGOD really work. Looking like we're going with roughly 1300s tech minus gunpowder right now with medium magic. Anybody up for it? Clicky
It's Rogue, not Rouge!

Well, the last FSTGOD didn't survive for very long around here-ish.

Well, before we begin, would some STGOD vets enlighten this stupid newbie, particularly on conflict resolution? (TGOD conflicts take loooong time to resolve) And what's the difference between FSTGOD and an forum-based, pen and paper FSRPG? Also, is it possible to play a person-level STGOD? (in contrary with those nations/kingdoms/empires usually played). See, the amount of details in STGOD threads pretty much intimidated me :(

EDIT: I got the impression that people don't kill each other in STGOD. Instead, they're fighting against "common enemies" usually set by the "Dungeon Master". Am I correct?

STGOD's can be anything from essentially online RPG games to the grand-scale political deals we usually run.The FSTGOD is, in this case, a strategic game of politics and war, not a micro-scale game dealing with some small cadre of heroes.

Conflict resolution rests on two pillars, number 1 being the gentleman's agreement, and number 2 being active, powerful mods.

But is it possible to have micro-scale FSTGOD? Probably we each can be knights/rangers/thieves and such? And probably some players can align with some others and form an adventuring party?

Regarding to gentleman's agreement, I presume we should formulate a wining/losing condition before actual encounters happen, right?

Yeah, but then it's just a web RPG. I'd wager the game will be a strategic one.

STGODs are pretty free-form. An example of a gentlemen's agreement is something like- "Well, my ships do have the advantage of surprise, and more experienced crews, but you have more vessels in the area. How about I lose a carrier and 6 escorts in this exchange, but you'll lose your Dreadnought because it was what I was focusing fire upon." "Make that 10 escorts, and you are on."

So it's basically like "bargaining" between combatants, am I correct?

How about fighting against common enemies like the Pirates in this STGOD thread? Is there any DM/mod to resolve such conflict? Seems to me everybody just slaughtering the pirates at whim...

Yeah, DM mods, and more importantly, over-expansionist powers who are always off fighting the Barbarians get whacked.

I'd like to register my interest, but I've never done this before.

We'll get you through it. It's not all that hard. Just sign up over at my board (second link in the sig, or the first post of this thread) and we'll go from there.
