He shoots....SCORE!

Post by Glocksman »

Thanks to gotapex.com and their posting of a (now expired) $750 off any $1499+ Dell inspiron laptop, I scored a Dell Inspiron 9300 laptop w/512MB RAM, CDRW/DVD combo drive and a bag for $967.

Gonna get that widescreen 17 inch UltraSharp™ goodness soon enough!

Aslong as you don't buy the uber shitty one's with propietery mobo's and no AGP, nothing that much wrong. And their laptops are generally good, Glock, is it a Pentium M? Those are godlike.

Dell occasionally unloads inventory like this -- word is that in under an hour they sold 10K laptops.

Dells are junk, and hell will freeze over before I buy another one.

I disagree. Of all the pre-built big companies, they have the best quality and support.
I work with a lot of em (1500+).

Dell support is laughable compared to IBM and their laptop build quality is certainly inferior to the ThinkPad. OTOH, the new joint venture between Levano and IBM might result in a quality decrease but only time will tell.

1.6Ghz Pentium-M w/533Mhz bus and Radeon X300 graphics on a 17 inch widescreen.

It'll blow the doors off of my old Inspiron 1100 2.5Ghz P4 and its Intel 'Extreme Graphics'

BTW, anyone want to buy a Inspiron 1100 laptop?

Specs:
2.5 Ghz P4
15 inch LCD
512 MB RAM
30 GB Hard drive
Toshiba CDRW/DVD Combo drive
Bag, wireless G card, and software.

$600 obo. Pics on request

True the IBM thinkpad is bulletproof, my old one is running 24/7 and not a hitch or any sort of problem.

But then again it is expensive.

IBM's support in the UK is shit.

Their warranty centres are drive in, and there are only eight in the country, only they and Apple do that.

Even Sony have the decency to pay for a courier. Hell, even the cheapest piece of shit from PC World gets you a free courier when it goes wrong.

If I ever get a Dell laptop, I'm getting a Latitude. The Inspiron line is too flimsy for my purposes.

I'm very happy for you. Have any of them spontaneously developed a three inch crack in the case from normal wear and tear (which is SO TOTALLY NOT Dell's fault, of course)?

When I spend a four digit number on anything, I espect a certain basic level of quality. If I don't get it, fuck you if you think you're getting another nickel out of me.

Laptop? In the lid?

A lot of laptops do this, it's usually down to a pisspoor hinge design and the fact that they're made of plastic.

Most manfacturers cover it.
