CRT vs LCD pixel burnout

Post by Shinova »

Screensavers exist to prevent pixels on a constant screen from burning themselves or something, I can't recall exactly what.

But my question is, which type is at a greater danger from a too-constant screen?

not sure entirely, but you're probably better off simply shutting down your monitor rather than letting the screensaver run for hours on end. if nothing else to save the power it uses.

Yep

Way back a screensaver just shut down the screen.

And that made people think that the comp was shutdown or somthing and pressed the power button.

So someone had the idea to add fireworks, flying toasters, and my favorite Johnny Castaway

And yes I have seen plenty of CRT screens with burnt in information on them but never on an LCD.

But do not take that as a garantee that it cannot happen on a LCD!

I do shut off my screen, my real question was which one can "burn out" faster.

So CRTs, according to Faram?

The main issue with an LCD screen is lamp life. IMHO, having a screen saver on an LCD screen that does anything other than turn it off is absolutely pointless.

LCDs can't burn in. Plasma screens and CRTs can, however. That said, you may as well just have the monitor go into standby mode rather than waste energy.

Meh. I just leave my monitor on 24\7 and to hell with burnt icons. :)
