Whenever I open things with WMP (version 10, specifically) it crashes. If it's streaming through Firefox, Firefox crashes. IE? IE crashes. Crash crash crash, boom boom boom, everything just crashes.

Bad codec. Either that or your hard disk has caused a bad sector where the codec is sitting.
Do a scan disk and check for bad sectors. Any bad sectors, back up & replace the disk ASAP.
Uninstall all the shitty codec pack you might have installed, and use WMP10 codecs and use ffdshow for everything else.
