You know, I usually consider myself rather computer literate, but things like the events of the last few days make me realize how bad I actually am at this. The previous problem with my hard drive was fixed easily with the advice of Beowulf (thanks again ), and I was hoping someone might be able to help me with this too.
I got a new DVD burner via newegg recently. It installed fine (the BIOS recognized it, anyway); although I had to rearrange connections on the power supply to get the computer to turn on. When I installed the burner, I unplugged the computer; resetting the CMOS information because apparently the little battery on the motherboard is dead. Also, my windows 2k pro told me a file was corrupted, and advised putting in the Win 2k install disk and repairing the install.
I got out my disk and put it into my old CD drive. My computer began to boot from the disk.. and hangs at the beginning of the setup-- specifically at "Setup is loading files (Windows 2000 Executive)...". The problem is not the CD drive, as it does the same in the DVD burner. I tried again as I was typing this, and it is locked up at the same spot. I can hear the CD spinning in the drive, and the DVD burner light is on. The hard drive is not doing anything at all.
I tried removing the DVD burner. I get the same message. Ugh. Both drives work fine, as they load my Ultimate Boot CD with no problem. The Win 2k disk doesn't seem dirty or scratched; it's really in wonderful condition. In fact, the disk reads fine in the computer I'm typing on. I have no idea what the problem could be.
I'd like to tell you the message windows itself gives me, which file it says was corrupted, but it's now decided to hang on the first "Starting Windows..." screen-- the black and white one that comes before the pretty splash screen one with the animated blue bar. It hangs with the load bar at about 90%, I'd guess, although I doubt that really makes a difference.
I apologize for constantly using this forum for tech support, but there's always someone who can help here, and it's a lot more useful than googling when I don't know exactly what my problem is. Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.

Tugging a rhythm to the vision that's in my head
Tugging a beat to the sight of you lying
So delighted with a new understanding
Something about a little evil that makes that
Unmistakable noise I was hearing
Unmistakable sound that I know so well
Spent and sighing with a look in your eye
Spent and sighing with a look on your face like
Sweet revelation, sweet surrender
sweet, sweet surrender
Surrender...

Okay, I feel very stupid about now. I accidently messed up a BIOS setting (the cpu FSB, actually), overclocking the processor greatly. I don't think it could handle it, and it just chose to die at the point when it should have been loading windows. It works fine now, as evidenced by the fact I'm posting on it.
