CD drive problem

Post by Shadow WarChief »

So while I was away from home finishing up my freshman year, my family's old computer broke down and they bought a new one. A discounted G5.

Well, today, as I tried to put a CD into the drive, it refused to accept the disc. It's not that it won't READ the CD, it's that it won't even let the CD ENTER the drive. I put the CD into the slot in the side of the computer, but the drive won't reel it in the rest of the way as its supposed to.

Soooo....suggestions?

I was considering going out an buying an external CD drive just to bypass the problem entirely and to prevent myself from going without a computer while it would be repaired. Is that a viable option, or is there some other course of action I'm too dense to see? :?

If its under warranty, ship the thing back to Apple.
In the long run you're better off doing without while its being fixed.
If not, open up the case and see who the drive's OEM was and order a new one from Newegg or some other vendor.
"You say that it is your custom to burn widows. Very well. We also have a custom: when men burn a woman alive, we tie a rope around their necks and we hang them. Build your funeral pyre; beside it, my carpenters will build a gallows. You may follow your custom. And then we will follow ours."- General Sir Charles Napier

"Its not a defect, its a feature!"

Sorry, that had to be said. Anyways, if you hear the motors whirring, then theres an obstruction. If you can't hear them, they're probably broken.
