The Legend of Dragoon

Post by Darth Garden Gnome »

Does anyone else think this game was a goddamn triumph? I thought its combo system was sheer brilliance (much in the same--but different--way that Vagrant Story's was), with it being necessary to time each hit of a multi-hit combo you have in order to land it and continue on with the combo. Eventually you gained levels in that paticular combo and it became more and more powerful, until you mastered it and became a true badass.

I thought the way they handled the Dragoon form itself was also genius. It was kind of like the Limit Break (or Trance or Overdrive) system, but it took longer to reach, so it became extra important on when to activate it and how to use it. The experience points were handed out like you were prying a bar of gold from a dead mans hands, but it became all the more rewarding when you leveled up (most of the time after/as the result of a boss fight).

I could go on... the guard system, the fact that potions healed percentages of health always, the uselessness of arrow-girl. But instead I just wanna know... could anyone ever do King Albert's Burst of Wind Dance (or something like that)? I found it quite impossible to ever do, other than one or two fluke occaisions.

Ah yes, awesome game. The translation was awful though. And Albert's "Gust of the Wind dance" is definitly the hardest combo in the game. Even his ultimate combo isn't as hard, but when you master it, WATCH OUT. You'll deal damage like a true entity of death, on crack even!

If I remember correctly there a section when you have to press the button pretty fast to continue the combo, after a somewhat slower section. It always threw me off. Took me days to master it.

I also remember that the optinal boss ( wizard guy) was pretty much impossible without uber armor. When you get it though...

Ah memories :)
