If you're getting a Delta Force game why not that new one that came out on the unreal engine? But RTW is probably a better game any way...

Elaborate on what you consider "pain in the ass"

Units even face the wrong way (you can not simply rotate the direction your units face as in other games). Multiple units will not even stay in the formation you painstakingly put them in. Horsemen may throw themselves into the enemy spears rather than move away from the battle like they are told. Rather than move away from a steady rain of arrows, both your own and the computer's units stand still. So yes. You can either use the worst AI seen in years, or you can TRY to control hundreds of troops individually (whether they actually do what you tell them to is purely random), or you can use pre-calculated "auto-resolved" outcomes. Five star reviews??? Even if this game was flawless in play, it still doesn't contain anything other than pre-designed maps for "custom" battles (nearly every other game has a terrain editor.) Options are non-existent compared to others. But this game is SO bad in so many areas, that decent graphics can't even save it from a one-star rating.
Does any of this have any validity?

Wrong[/quote]

Semi-true. It is possible to move your units as a formation, but once fighting starts, both lines become broken as some units break through the enemy line and others rout. Not that it's a bad thing.
Horsemen may throw themselves into the enemy spears rather than move away from the battle like they are told.
When units are engaged, they are slower in responding to orders because it takes time for the men to break free from the fighting. A few seconds of multiple clicking should get the unit clear for the enemy.
Rather than move away from a steady rain of arrows, both your own and the computer's units stand still.
I don't think that's a bug, unless making a gap in a battle line is something to be diesired, and real-life sholdiers immediately start running away whenever they are shot at. There is a "loose" formation for dealing with ranged atacks which minimizes casualties.
So yes. You can either use the worst AI seen in years, or you can TRY to control hundreds of troops individually (whether they actually do what you tell them to is purely random),
Actually, you can't control the troops individually. I wonder how much time this person has spent playing the game if he did not realize this (as well as the fact that you can turn units, and how to control them in battle
or you can use pre-calculated "auto-resolved" outcomes. Five star reviews??? That part, at least, is true. There is no map editor for custom battles.

Wasn't the map editor released with the latest patch?

For historical battles, and its annoying to use.

The guy attacking RTW is a flaming idiot who has never played the tutorial.

I hate people who bag out a game because it is harder to understand than their Diablo 2...

Whoever wrote that is a total retard. He seems to have even missed the campaign modes, which are most of the damn game. The RTT action only makes up about 2/3rds of gameplay.

R:TW is a godlike game. I'd take it over any X-Box game anyday.

It's a fair game, but I cannot say I like it that much. It's not that it's too hard; i am just not very crazy about the way the interface works. I always have a lot of trouble getting my troops to follow commands. SOmetimes I have to click 10 times to get them to respond, and the camera angles dont' seem to be my friend.

Sometimes the pathing AI gets a bit odd on my game. I don't know if it's a glitch or something, but the units very often go in the opposite direction I click, and this is on big, open maps, so I don't think they are using their AI to avoid obsticles. It's just very odd.

I would take the other game, but that's only because of the problems I have had with it.

R:TW was one of the best games of the year and highly replayable due to a shitload of free mods. You can't go wrong with buying this game and that guy who wrote that quote can go to hell

I tried RTW for a while. I understood how to play it, but the turn-based part of the game turned me off. I'm a purely RTS kind of player, and if you're the same kind of person, you might not like RTW.

But if you like the turn-based, then yeah, feel free.

But to be honest, all the great games are coming out starting from holidays. Oblivion, UT2007, Supreme Commander, etc.

Define "starting from holidays"... after all, Farenheit/Indigo Prophecy comes out in September, and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. is still on for October...

Find a copy of Total Annihilation. And its expansion pack, The Core Contingency.

You won't regret it. That is, if you don't already have TA.

Errr, from October onwards, but I suppose September's fine too, since Winter Assault comes out then.

How about GTA: San Andreas?

Spent hours already at that game and I'm only half way trough the game (and thats with just doing missions and not even counting all the minigames and other fun stuff you can do ingame)

Unless you already have it, there is no reason at all not to buy it
