Post by Tychu »

I just want to know, how many of you actually have the Star Wars Galaxies game? to put it a better way, who here actually has a computer that can play the game perfectly, no chugging along, and having enough memmory on the computer left so that they can play the first Roller Coaster Tycoon on it?

I want to get the game, but i simply cant play the game remind me to punch the guy from SONY who changed their mind from moving it to console to PC

Um, don't get Galaxies. Just don't. It's horrid. Better to throw your money into a big trash pit and let SOE executives roll around in it. :P

I thought that's what Galaxies was. It sounds like an accurate description to me. :)

What they said, waste your money else where, SWG is not worth it.

However, as to a computer that can play it, I have a GF5200fx which runs it fine, with a gig of RAM, my only problems come from playing it on a 56k connection, at times there can be muchos lag.

That acutal sounds like fun... if your a SOE exective that is...

Seriously Galaxies has a ton of content but none and I do mean none of it is polished. 95% of the Game consisit of "wond't it be cool if..." and they implent it, bugs are discovered and never fixed.

MMO's as they age tend to get better, more content, tons of bug fixes and fresh ideas. Heck EQ is massive and so bug free you swear it was perfect. Even AO which used to be so buggy you could not take two steps without crashing is now so polished it gleams.

Yet Galaixes.... it almost does housing right(Except items have a habit of moving or to many can crash some computers) Combat was made WORSE. It was stupid easy before because of Doctor buffs were so massive one could fight near anything in the game with no danger. Then was suddenly changed to so increably deadly that no leveling could be done because it was never tested.

Then they took away half the combat abilities.
I could go on and on, but I won't because I don't have have enough time to list all the flaws.

I'd just wait for the next SW MMO. After all, eventually their going to reach a point where there are too few SWG players to make it viable to continue making expansions and such, but I doubt LFL is going to let the genre opportunity slip away entirely. Hopefully, they'll learn from their mistakes, and try to make it seem more in universe.

Yeah, the SW fanbase is simply too large to ignore the opportunity for an MMORPG.

Although some of the opinions here are rather harsh, I have to say they are more or less accurate. I still play Galaxies, but the only real reason is that I found a great community on my server. If it wasn't for them, I would have quit long ago. They do fix bugs, just not fast enough to keep up with the amount of bugs that is in each new Issue. I will most likely be dropping it soon, though I did say that a year ago so who knows.

It is the only place to find an MMO Star Wars, and many servers have great communities (though stay away from the larger servers).
I used to think that it was awful that life was so unfair. Then I thought, wouldn't it be much worse if life were fair, and all the terrible things that happen to us come because we actually deserve them? So, now I take great comfort in the general hostility and unfairness of the universe. ~Marcus Cole, Babylon 5

The problems of the world cannot possibly be solved by skeptics or cynics whose horizons are limited by the obvious realities. We need men who can dream of things that never were and ask "why not?" ~John F Kennedy Jr, 1963

I played it for two years, and am "taking a break" for now. I'll proly never go back...but we'll see.

Like some have said, the community is pretty good. Compared to my experiences in WoW, at least, the people there are pretty cool and have a good time.

The one thing I like about SWG over WoW? The customization and ability to do so many different things. Having a house so you can collect cool items and show off your stuff to your friends, and having your house in a big player run city is pretty sweet.

The one thing I like about WoW over SWG? Well....just about everything else. I specifically like the fact that I never, EVER get lag in WoW, while I pretty much never get above 15 fps in SWG. Also, the quest and story system in WoW is fun, while in SWG....it's pretty much worthless except for a couple theme parks.

I might go back to SWG for a couple months when the new expansion comes out, just for the hell of it. I've put a lot of time and effort into it so it's tough to just give up on all the accomplishments and friends I've made. That's the evil trap of MMORPG's, though, so hard to quit because you've spent so much time and money on them.

So does the poll actually have anything to do with the subject of the thread?
