Empire at War question
What unit types are currently known to be present in the game? Are SSDs eventually available for use?

At the moment, expect standard fighters and capital ships for both the Empire and Rebels. That would be:
Empire
-ISD
-Venators
-VSD
-Interdictor Cruisers
-Death Stars
-TIE Fighters
-TIE Bombers
-Carrack Cruiser
-Lancer Frigate
Rebels
-Mon Calamari Star Cruisers
-Nebulon B Frigates
-Assault Frigate (or what looks to be one, from the various EaW clips)
-X-wings
-Y-wings
-A-wings
There are also some ships that are most likely new that will debute in EaW. As to your SSD question, its possible that the ship may be in. I would expect it to be in, but it may be cut out for gameplay issues, although I would doubt that. SSDs are practically expected in any space combat type game.
