Call of Duty 2 [it makes my nipples firm]

Post by weemadando »

It really is that fucking good.

Forget all the other shit that's come out. Here is a game that has worked PERFECTLY out of the box (no crashes at all amongst any of my friends), is beautiful graphically, and at the same time beautifully optimised (even my comp can run it at 1024x768 with EVERYTHING on without slowdown).

Fuck all the other games that have come out buggy, unoptimised and crappily "padded out".

CoD2 is looking like being the sweetest 8 hours of gameplay since CoD, CoD:UO and maybe Max Payne 2.

Multiplayer is apparently nice and stable and fun - and the "Halo Health" dynamic works perfectly - naysayers can go hang, its wonderfully balanced.

Congratulations Infinity Ward. You've done it again.

On the no crashes thing- both my friend and I have encountered crashes, and I've heard of similiar stability complaints. It's still quite playable though, and of course uber cool. TT-33 Tokarev, SVT-40, PPS-42- what's not to love?

I got this yesterday; it’s just as good as the original so far. It's got all the excellent atmosphere plus really fantastic graphics. It does however often crash when loading a new level (actually reboots the computer) and I've managed to break the second British level (I went along a path I guess I wasn't supposed to and now the objectives are broken) so I'll have to play it over again to continue.

One very minor annoyance is in the multiplayer weapons: Not only have they left out the deployable machine guns that were so much fun in the first game, but they've given the British an M1 Garand as a weapon choice. Also all the sides get a shotgun (the same one for each side) in multiplayer, which seems entirely superfluous.

While its a pretty fun game, it has a major dual core bug. Basically, this bug doesn't allow you to heal, doesn't autosave (and dammit, I want a quick save button!), and doesn't clear objectives. Usually the game is fine during the first few parts of a mission, but the bugs always take effect at some point. And setting the CPU affinity does nothing. This is a major QA bundler, especially with more and more systems having dual core CPUs. From what I've seen at PlanetCallofDuty forums, a patch is in the works. Untill then, I can't finish the single player (at least I'm almost to end, but the bugs are taking effect more and more).

Multiplayer is a blast. I hate that damn trench gun, but I love shooting the bastards that use it when they miss.

Also, sprint needs to put back into the game, as well as the deployable machine guns. Having the back would be nice, but I'm not missing it nor the vehicles.

Fun game from what I've played so far. Love the little hidden toys you can find if you look hard enough(Inculding a scoped Gw43 and a coped STG 44. Tank combat was abit better this time, nothing compared to FH or the like, not to mention I think in the first Brit tanking mission I ended up with all sixteen kills of the tank charge with two team-mates left alive.

Loved COD and COD:UO (except for the insane hard Russian final mission in UO. ACK.) the best weapons feel of any WWII FPS so far.

getting CODII dropshipped to me any day now, as it came free with my 7800GT order. (putting together a beast of a system, A64X2 4400+, A8N32-SLi, 2GB OCZ ram....)

An ya know what, I saw the demo on the X360 they had up at Best Buy..

Mine looks prettier. :D :D

Yeah, I've seen a few post on Nvnews.net that the X360 version looks like shit. I wonder if that's just the game itself, or if that's what to expect the 360 and the other nextgen consoles.

After a few more hours of playing I know one thing. The Bren kicks ass, better than the mp44, Garand, Gw43 or the STV 40. Its accurasy is good but the stopping power is its greatest draw as it rarley leaves wounded germans unlike mp44s and Garands which seem to nearly always require a second shot.

And I've seen the counter, that they misconfigure the Xbox360 because they have no idea how, ending up with such results such as HDTV configuring to run as old style TV.

How would it perform on a AthlonXP 2000+ with a Geforce4Ti 4200 and 768 mb ram? I don't really care about resolution, 800x600 will do, but I care a lot about frame rate and texture/SFX...

I'm not quite as impressed with it as you lot. Sure, it does all the right things and has great graphics, but it just didn't grab me very tightly. Not like the first game did.

Mostly because the games OHSHITOSHIT moments don't have the six second pause. The pause were you KNOW your fucked but can't yet do anything about it yet. Heck I know from repeated play that at one point when I first played through the Bocage village mission I was to busy smashing rifle buts to heads to even notice the Tiger and platoon of germans attacking from the other side.
