SDnet Diplomacy Game Thread

Post by Thirdfain »

Welcome!

Rules are simple in this game. Turns are due every Friday night at midnight Eastern Standard Time, and will be processed over the weekend and posted Sunday. If I ever can't make that deadline, I will inform everyone and we'll work things out.

Please keep posts out of this thread. Use the sign up thread for any OOC chatter. Of course, you can submit press releases as part of your order submission which I will post here.

If no orders are recieved, your nation will be considered to be in civil disorder for the turn, unless you inform me of your coming absence and make some sort of arrangements.

Now, let's get this show on the road.

Seeing as this game is probably going to last for a few months, does anyone else think that this thread should be stickied? Just an idea.

Press:

Britain:
WAR!

The Sovereign Crown of the United Kingdom has declared war on the Kingdom of Belgium. King Leopold II of Belgium has been using his territory in the Congo to agitate the natives in the British colonies of Africa. From the Congo Free State, agents seep into Anglo-Egyptian Sudan, British East Africa, and Northern Rhodesia.

While all Europeans know that the Africans are savages, Britain knows that her charges might be brought up from their savagery into civilization. Leopold, however, denies civilization to the Africans under his control. He knows that they shall look jealously at the people in the heart of the British Empire and demand that Leopold do the same for them. Yet Leopold, the cur that he is, would deny it as it takes money out of his pockets! Instead, he sends his agents out to cause unrest among the Rhodesians, Sudanese, and Ugandans in order to destabilize our Empire and set back our success in civilizing the natives!

The Crown cannot tolerate such intrigues into our fair Empire. Because of King Leopold II’s vile attempts to destabilize and destroy the British Empire from within, we declare war on him and his country in order to set things right. All diplomatic means have already been resorted to without success. Leopold steadfastly refuses to cease his machinations against us. We have no alternative but war. We hope that after forcing his abdication, we can find a more levelheaded king who wishes to support the British Crown rather than destroy it.
Iberian Ambition!

The French have invaded the sovereign state of Spain! While France might feel that it is right for her to invade Spain in a vain attempt to reconcile some vendetta over events a century past, the Crown of the United Kingdom feels that such a move is rash indeed. The Napoleonic era is dead and the United Kingdom cannot tolerate a move into one of her ally's sovereign borders! Further, such an act is dangerously close to war, as the British territory of Gibralter is located in the province that France has stolen by force.

We request that the French vacate Spain immediately lest the British have to take up arms against France and liberate Spain with force of arms. While such actions are regrettable in the greatest, the United Kingdom and her sons are not afraid to resort to such actions when they are necessary.

As a sign of our willingness to show diplomatic means of resolving this conflict, we promise restitution to France for whatever damages Spain has inflicted as well as ignoring all present damages inflicted on Spain by France. If the people of France agree to this solution, the British will happily keep warm relations with the French.

If French forces are out of the Iberian Peninsula by the Fall of 1902, the British will not attack her. If the French remain, however, we will bring our troops to Gibralter and repel the French at any cost necessary.
