Matrix: Path of Neo. (Spoilers)

Post by Gandalf »

I played through this game with a few friends a few days ago. On the whole it resembles a cleaned up verison of Enter The Matrix.

Except for the ending. It's brilliant.

For those of you who haven't played it:

In the middle of the last fight with Smith, when you're down in tht pit thing in the middle of the road, the game stops. The screen goes white. We then see two chairs like the one Morpheus sits on in the first film. Two figures, one blue, one pink, looking like they're from the Sega Master System appear.

They then introduce themselves as the Wachowski brothers. They explain that the whole Jesus martyr thing sucks ass as an ending for a videogame. Then talk about how cool it would have been if all of the Smiths had formed into one giant Smith that Neo has to fight in a manner resembling "Hulk vs Galactus".

Then it happens. The Smiths use nearby buildings and themselves to make a giant Smith. They find a giant pair of sunglasses nearby on a billboard too.

In short: The ending kicks all sorts of arses. Worth playing just for this. I didn't finish the battle, so I don't know what happens afterwards.

The beginning is cool too. You fight a series of enemies, the amount you defeat dictates the difficulty level you get.

Edited for clarity.

So this game doesn't blow complete ass? Wow. They've been churning out retarded Matrix game after retarded Matrix game and I'm just sort of numb to them.

Bullshit! That's so awesome yet so weird that it CAN'T be real. What?! Did the Smith really transform into a giant Smith?!

What console is it?

X-box and I assure you it is real, 8-bit Wachowski monologue and all.

The kung-fu is really fun (especially when you start doing attacks on multiple enemies). And there's a ton of movie homages to spot to (that and a Jack Thompson lookalike gets Smithed while going on a tirade about violent video games before Congress).

PS2, X-Box, and I think PC. The fact that nobody would have seen it coming is what makes it great.

And as Sylas pointed out, there's a cool bit with a politician guy complaining about violent video games.

I'm fairly certain that's supposed to be Thompson. The overdone tirade style speech is only icing on the cake when you consider it even looks like him.

Its real.

They show it in the comercials, giant Smith and all. It goe sby kind of fast so it may not be obvious but the Smiths seem to kamikazie a fuel tanker or bus ino a building then fly up the pices to form a big Smith...at least it looked like that in the comercial i saw.

Personally i liked the original Matrix Revolutions ending, but the ending for the game Enter the Matrix sucked an unmeasurable quantity of donkey balls and so this is better. :)

And now i mist buy this game.

The game'spretty fun, though some parts are rather difficult until you see the "trick".

* When fighting agents, before you can kill them, you engage them in hand to hand combat and try to toss them off whatever platform you're fighting on. Even if the game tells you diffretly, just keep tossing them off buildings and ledges.

* When fighting on the pillars, use Evade to evade an attack, then Focus/Throw to throw the opponent off and into the fire below. Just punching does't take off much life.

* Guns. Are. WORTHLESS. Use only when forced.

I've seen three of the last FMVs; the clip of the Wachowskis jabbering as one-color sprites, the one of the giant Smith forming, as well as the finale.

I won't spoil the last one, but let's just say-
Let's just say they will keep on fighting 'till the end...

Sounds fun.

But is this the "real" game's ending or is it just a really clever easter egg?
fun/fantasy movies existed before the overrated Star Wars came out. What made it seem 'less dark' was the sheer goofy aspect of it: two robots modeled on Laurel & Hardy, and a smartass outlaw with bigfoot co-pilot and their hotrod pizza-shaped ship, and they were sucked aboard a giant Disco Ball. -adw1

Fuck them. You give us a crappy movie game starring two second-tier characters and two years later you finally let us get around to playing Neo, which is what we already wanted? Too late, I won't spend a dime enriching them even further.

I can tell you it is awesome. I beat the game on master level and it does indeed kick ass. The graphics are not the best, but the gameplay makes it 100% forgiveable. the bullet time is SUPERB, the camera controls are polished and easy, it is easily the best matrix game ever. As far as giant smith it goes like this:

Spoilerized, even though there is a warning in the thread title.

Neo gets up out of the hole he smashed smith into, and the smiths start pouring out from the buildings, they snatch up huge slabs of concrete, cars, pieces of buildings, trucks, light poles, everything. they all run to this building in the background carrying all this shit, and they form one gigantic supersmith complete with sunglasses.

They even used super CGI animation to make it look real. it's not like they took the ingame graphics to make the supersmith cutscene, they did it like final fantasy the movie-style. I mean, you have to look REALLY hard to tell that it's CGI at all. it looks like it was a deleted scene from the movie they added in.

I can't believe they actually used the ending in the commercial.

BTW, there's a place where you can download the actual end cutscenes. I'll have to try and dig it up.

I need to point this one out and elaborate, since it's not really a spoiler for the thread: "They form one gigantic supersmith complete with sunglasses."

It's not just a gigantic Smith (although it's definitely gigantic; Neo isn't even quite as big as its nose), it's more like a gigantic robot made of scrap metal, chunks of concrete, and cars, with lots of normal Smiths inside controlling it with wires and pulleys.

And it's not merely made with sunglasses, but the gigantic Smith pulls a gigantic pair of sunglasses off a *billboard* and then puts them on its gigantic metal & concrete face.
