Need help removing some spyware/trojan

Post by Laird »

I went to my friends house yesterday to hang out, he told me his computer started acting all mental and slow...getting popups.(This just started happening recently) So I installed Mcafee, spybot search and destroy and nuked 129 virues/spyware/malwares.

Problem is I can't get rid of three, they are all linked to a file that is a downloader program located in E:/Windows/system32/st3.dll

Doing a normal scan/clean with mcafee doesn't help, nor does going into safe mode and doing a scan/clean work.(safe mode no network access) I tried deleting it in CMD/dos, saying "Access restricted, make sure it's not write protected." I tried the properties to make it not write protected, didn't wanna delete. I tried some googling, couldn't find much on removal instructions.... anyone got any ideas or removal instructions?(It seems to be a memory virus)

About all I can think of doing right now is going into safe mode, and disabling the .dll so it becomes inhert.

Help if you can please?

Fast computer, XP prof SP 2 all updated as of last night, mcafee home, and spybot, before anyone says "Reformat' thats a last option.

looks good, I'll give it a shot. The few forums that had any reference to this problem didn't give much help other then "Post a HJT" log and then once done by the person having the problem no insturctions were given other then "Use this!"
