Sword of the Stars info

Post by White Haven »

Ever since seeing that 'PC Games of 2006' thread, I've been doing somepoking around about a couple of the titles. Well, I lie. About one. Take the Homeworld: Cataclysm team and throw them at a 4X game, and you get Sword of the Stars. Check their site If you want some more details...I just happened across a little tidbit on the forums that won't be mentioned in the wiki or any such, but made the Homeworld fan in me go SQUEE! This came out of a thread on gaming music. Mecron's one of the devs.

For those of you that don't know this one, it's the music that accompanies the launch of the Mothership and the return of the Mothership to a burning Kharak in the classic (and amazing) 3D Space RTS Homeworld
Mecron wrote:Psst Thrawn, the return to Kharak mission was my idea.
Oh heeeell yeah.

Plus, of course, there's the fact that it's got STL star travel, Jump-node-style interconnected systems, a stutter drive, a physics-negating warp field, and instant gate-travel in the same game.

It's very strongly on my radar. So is the similar-but-different game Sins of the Solar Empire. Between the recently released GalCiv 2, Sword of the Stars, Sins of the Solar Empire, and Space Empires V, 2006 should be the biggest year for 4X games in probably a decade.
