VLC Media Player help needed.

Post by Gandalf »

Last night, while waiting to fall asleep, I hit upon the idea of taking screenshots from DVDs and using then as wallpapers.

Since nothing I tried worked, I opened the "capture device" function of the player. Since then I have lost picture. I hit "restore defaults", and that didn't bring picture back. I then uninstalled and reinstalled the program, that didn't work either.

Now I'm stuck with a media player with no picture.

Does anyone have the slightest idea of what I could do?

Could this be down to hardware acceleration, perhaps? I know in WMP, when you try to grab a screenshot, the image won't save if the hardware rendering is active. It could be this setting in VLC got messed with during the screencap. I'd personally uninstall it, then reinstall clean again. Though my experience is with the Linux version.

I've done the uninstall and reinstall.

Now I have image, but it still cuts out at seemingly random times and the only way I can get it back is to reset the computer.

Odd. Not doing this in other players I take it. Could always be a graphics driver anomaly instead, other than that, I'd only be able to suggest another player.
