Space Empires IV Gold - anyone play it?

Post by MKSheppard »

I have this mod I've been working on for the last two years on/off, ever
since I got my hands on SE IV, and it really changes the feel of the game.

Right now, I'm too lazy to add any more talk about it, but after I try out
my Mercury launch in Orbiter, I'll post again :-P

I redid the Racial traits, and the following is by me:

Nomadic Race
This race cannot inhabit normal planets and gets the nomad tech tree.

Normal Intelligence Operations
The race can carry out Intelligence Operations.

Spymasters
The race is well versed in the art of spying, and gains
the Spymaster tech tree.

Normal Research
The race can research normally.

University Research
The race uses advanced research centers to conduct it's research.

Normal Mining
The race mines normally.

Advanced Mining
The race uses advanced mining techniques.

*FROM OTHER MODS BY OTHER PEOPLE*

Endemic Wastefulness
Supply usage by all space vehicles is doubled.

Cursed
Double the chance for bad events.

***************

Also redid the culture file to be worth something:

=======================================================================================
CULTURES DATA FILE
=======================================================================================

=======================================================================================
*BEGIN*
=======================================================================================

Pacifist
A race that subscribes to pacifism. Happiness is increased, but the martial arts are penalized severely.

BERSERKERS - The race is ruled through an iron fist and the ruler sheds masses of blood to keep all dissent in line and the entire race is centered around one object and only one object - WAR. Everything else is disregarded except for repair, as we all know a warrior cannot fight with a broken sword.

COMMUNISM - The race is ruled by a socialistic regime that focuses on mass production and intelligence gathering at the cost of keeping things running. Research is badly affected by the pinheaded Five-Year Planners. Dissent is crushed through State Security. Enormous masses of ill-trained conscripts boost combat ratings.

FASCISISM - The race is ruled by a fascistic regime that focuses on conquest and subjugating lesser races.

CAPITALISTIC DEMOCRACY - The race is ruled by an elected senate. There is some discontent due to the nature of democracy, and intelligence gathering is weakened, but in exchange, production is increased due to the race's capitalist nature, along with research.

SOCIALISTIC DEMOCRACY - This is an odd mix between the central planning of communism and the free market of democracy.

************

Berserkers were insanely tough to fight. I ended up having to design specific ships JUST TO FIGHT THEM.

I have played this, I don't like it, it's too slow and cumbersome.

Yes they do, numbnuts :roll:

They no longer make the original SEIV, but sell instead the GOLD
version which is much improved...

I've only recently started playing. Thus far, I haven't added any mods, as I still don't know how to play the basic game with maximum efficiency. I'm enjoying it, though. Stellar manipulation is genius.

Basically, I switch between this game and Alpha Centauri: Alien Crossfire for my strategy gaming needs.
