No similtanious worldwide release for the Revolution?

Post by Pezzoni »

Clicky wrote: A slew of new revelations about Nintendo's next console, the Revolution, have not so much set the games world alight as poured cold water over it. Nintendo president Satoru Iwata last week said: "We don't think it's necessary to do the simultaneous worldwide launch simply because others are doing this."
If this is true, I shall be most unhappy :(
Nintendo managed it with Zelda (admittedly not the same as a console release) iirc - why not give the Eurpopean gamers (who are probably a bigger market than the US anyway) some consoles at the same time?

Nintendo: Global launch still on
17:45, Mar 30th by Ben Parfitt
Nintendo has dismissed a swathe of inaccurate Internet reporting which claimed that president Satoru Iwata had stated the company has no intentions to implement a global launch for its upcoming Revolution console.
Many online stories had quoted Iwata as claiming that Nintendo does not have to initiate a worldwide launch simply because rival Sony and Microsoft have chosen to do so.

“The comments have been taken out of context,” a Nintendo spokesperson told MCV. “What he’s actually saying is that we’re not holding a worldwide launch just because everyone else is doing one too. It’s just another re-iteration of the fact that we’re not looking at what Sony or Microsoft are doing.

"Unfortunately, it seems everyone’s jumped on it and got the wrong idea.”

Meanwhile, Iwata has today revealed to CNN that aims to keep Revolution software prices below $50.

However, your article is a couple days newer. It could be they just picked up the news late though.

EDIT: In fact, that's probably it. They took the same Iwata quote that the other article is claiming is misinterpreted.

I was going to say that the quote isn't necessarily saying that they're not going for a world-wide release, but just they're not going to do it because everyone is doing it. But it seems like a Nintendo spokesperson said it before me :D

But meh, we're used to getting things months after they're released in the US. That's why Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow was extra awesome; we got it five days before the Americans 8)
