External Hard Drive Woes

Post by PrinceofLowLight »

Recently, someone tripped over the power cable of my external hard drive and pulled the plug out. This happened to occur while I was downloading something onto it. Ever since, Explorer has shut down after a bit of use.

It's been weird. Sometimes it'll work fine for hours and then die. Sometimes it will crash as soon as it loads. Sometimes it only crashes if I try to write something onto it, or access something.

I tried reformatting (after borrowing a friend's external and using a handy file recovery program to save my data.) That didn't leave me in any better a position. I thought I was fine because it worked for a few hours, but now it's acting up again.

If reformatting didn't fix it, will anything?

Try using it with another computer for awhile and see if you can replicate the errors.

What OS are you using?
