C&C: The First Decade problem

Post by Lazarus »

I've just got this colelction today, and went straight for Red Alert. I started this game when my cousin had it back in 1996, and since then have tried to finish it about 4 times until it ceased working due to XP. So, ten years later, I'm back to finish what I started. However...

I'm already onto the fifth mission, and have just realised that I haven't seen an FMV sequence since the first mission. This is not good. This is not good at all. What's Red Alert today without the FMV? Are they just not included, or is there something wrong on my end? If they truly aren't included in this edition, I'm going to be extremely pissed. Anyone?

Yeah, that's been a common problem, actually.

I think EA's released a patch for it, though. Check the C&C websites.

Huh, so it's a bug? Awesome. I thought they just didn't include them (which really kinda ruins Red Alert).

Thanks a lot, thats fixed it. Thats a weird bug, its not like the game crashed or anything, the cutscenes just weren't there.

someone probably forgot to write the "play FMV now" line.

I really wish they would have incorporated the FMVs from Retaliation into the Aftermath and Counterstrike expansions. It's the same missions, where are Carville and Tupolov?

That was the worst thing about Generals; they totally discarded the whole concept of storylines or tech levels. I liked the tech levels; I always thought it would be nice to play Generals with some of the more advanced weapons systems disabled.

They didn't have it in RA2 either. You have to edit the ini files.

The Zero Hour expansion pack makes an attempt at a storyline. At least it has cut scenes, but they're of reporters doing a new broadcast, not some general giving you orders, which is normal for C&C games and much better.
"I want to mow down a bunch of motherfuckers with absurdly large weapons and relative impunity - preferably in and around a skyscraper. Then I want to fight a grim battle against the unlikely duo of the Terminator and Robocop. The last level should involve (but not be limited to) multiple robo-Hitlers and a gorillasaurus rex."--Uraniun235 on his ideal FPS game
