Just Cause demo

Post by Darth Quorthon »

A demo for the game Just Cause has arrived. I'm really looking forward to this one. GTA-style gameplay on a tropical island trying to effect a "regime change"? I'm in. I'm a bit tired, so here's a summary from IGN:
IGN wrote:In Just Cause, you take on the role of the flamboyant Rico Rodriguez - an undercover CIA operative specialising in regime change - as he tries to overthrow the corrupt government of San Esperito. This rogue South American island is suspected of stockpiling WMDs and it's your job to negate the threat to world peace. It could be to your advantage that this tropical paradise is about to implode as various factions vie for power - it just needs a gentle nudge in the right direction.

Just Cause offers the freedom to tackle your assignment however you want: play the island's factions off against one another; incite a rebellion among the masses; or build alliances with rebel forces and drug cartels. Explore the game's world of 1,225 square miles of mountains, jungles, beaches, cities and villages with a variety of air, land and sea craft.

1,225 sq. miles? Are they kidding? For reference: San Andreas was only 17 sq. miles. I'm sure it's impressive from a technical standpoint, but how much of that expanse is going to be content, and how much is going to be wasteland (or jungle, whatever)?

The thought of being stranded hundreds of miles away from civilization is no less appealing in it's virtual form than it is in reality.

This screenshot shows what looks like a fairly good-sized city in the background. I imagine that a pretty good chunk of the game world will be occupied by cities and villages. If the world were square, it would be 35 miles on a side, which, while big, wouldn't be too unmanageable if you're able to jack vehicles at will GTA-style.

Well, I've downloaded 50% of it now... I'll let you guys know what I think. Though I have a feeling I won't be given much opportunity to explore the expanse. :)

Eh, false alarm. The game's too much for my puny machine. It loaded, but the controls were so sluggish and unresponsive as a result of lag (even at it's lowest possible settings) I might as well have not been playing at all.

Apparently, the 360 version is superior to the PC version from what I've gathered on the internets. The lag isn't an issue, and the control is better for most of the gameplay. I think aiming on the PC version was the only thing that was better than the 350. I may download it to try it out...

Downloading now.

Farcry+Hitman+GTA? If that's even 60% true, sign me the hell up. A decent GTA+ a GOOD version of one of the other two modes would have me onboard in an instant.

It's ALL LIES, it's not Farcry, GTA, it's not even a decent GTA clone, and it SURE as hell not anythint to do with Hitman.
Let me count the flaws.

Infinte respawning enemies? Check
Moronic AI? Check
Cheesy Lines? Check
A WANTED system that leaves you with no idea how "wanted" you are? Check
Going from massive firefight with heaps of corpses to a tropical paradise in ten seconds? Check
A Spainerd(IE from SPAIN) pretending to be Cuban? Check
Ram a tree at 70mph and no damage to the car? Check
Tree's which you can't drive or walk through... but apprently you can parashute/fly through just fine! Check
Infinite Ammo? Why yes! Look at that your basic weapons are two pistols that never run out! Check

But would you say Boiling Point was better? At least it had random bursts of euro cock rock. :)

I'm with Mr. Bean. After all the hype and buildup I read regarding this game, this demo left me flat in a big way. Maybe the finished game will address some of these issues, but since it's supposed to be out within a couple of months, I'm not holding my breath. I'll definitely be waiting to read some reviews and check out some forums before I decide to get this game. I hope Gothic 3 is better.

Haven't played for more than 5 minutes yet, but I'm not real impressed. Good thing I wasn't even aware of this game until yesterday. Nothing to be disappointed about.

Is that down to $20? I figured by the time it hit that price, they'd have patched it up decently.
