Hi
I have a Shuttle SN45G (case, mobo, psu + Sempron2200+) that has a problem: It won't get past POST (computer humms, no picture) when there is a memory stick on first slot.
It did work fine before, but after "it hanged, and after pressing reboot got no picture" I thought vga failure, and tried spare card with no luck. After stripping machine down I noticed that it works fine if I leave first ram slot free. (Had dual Kingston 256 sticks, both work in second slot.)
I can't see any blown components on mobo, nor did bios update help. I do not have much clue about correct memory settings as I have not changed them before.
Any ideas? (Besides using it with one stick )

Problem getting past POST

Test both memory sticks in slot 1 one after the other. If neither one works, the problem is a busted motherboard. If one works and the other one doesn't, busted memory.
There might be some warranty on either the mobo or the memory, but you're not going to get anyone to accept it with the modifications you've done on the system.
