iTunes headaches

Post by Jack Bauer »

I'm sure all of you Mac users out there have heard about the numerous bugs involved with Apple's latest release of iTunes 7. The problems range from faulty audio playback, missing audio tracks, no access to the Music Store, etc. I myself have run into a unique problem. I use an iBook G4 and whenever I open up iTunes, the program initiates "determining gapless playback" for my songs.

However, it will always freeze in the middle of this process, causing my entire OS to crash as well. Stopping the "gapless playback" is possible, however it is only a short-term fix, as it would commence later anyway. I've also tried manually adding in my library, however this problem still persists. So I've been reduced to listening to my songs using Preview in the Finder window.

So SDNers, have you experienced any problems with this latest release?

P.S. Is there anyone out there who has the Mac version of iTunes 6? For the life of me, I can't find a previous version on the Web. All have been scrubbed and been replaced with 7.

I've had various issues, but my G4 iBook got through the gapless thing far faster than my 3200/64 PC, and I haven't had your issue. I can't find my iTunes 6 dmg either. :(

Not had any problems, but then I rarely use iTunes for actual playback these days, it's all on the iPod or streamed through Connect360, since the 360 has an optical connection to the amp and the powerbook can only get a cheapo headphone to RCA adapter.

I'm having an odd issue with my 5th Gen iPod since iTunes 7 and the accompanying iPod software update where album art on the iPod is sometimes wrong. All of my songs have album art (having hunted them down myself) but when a random song goes from having the proper album art in iTunes to a NPR podcast cover, I think that is a sign something is amiss.

I've only had trouble on iTunes 7 for Windows, the Mac version has worked fine so far (though since I'm waiting for my MacBook to arrive my time with it has been limited to my mother's laptop).

My only trouble has been with connecting my new iPod I got yesterday. iTunes locks up if I try to change any of the preferences (such as Sync All Podcasts instead of Sync All Unwatched Podcasts) on the iPod itself, but it can sync fine- I just can't change the syncing preferences.

I'm getting weird distortion from mine on my iBook G4. Jesus, who fucked up at Apple and let this out?

Well Durandal started working at Apple this year, coincidence? I think not!

We upgraded my brother's computer to iTunes 7 and it's been nothing but trouble. It freezes up whenever it's called upon to do something and refuses to transfer files. He said he was going to wipe iTunes 7 from his computer when he has the time for it.

Having the volume in iTunes be anything other than maxed out results in massibe amounts of static.

Occasionally when transitioning between songs a random blast of sound will roar, scaring the shit out of me if I have my speakers loud. Also, the track listing for OK Computer on my iPod is screwed up, even though I've gone over it multiple times and made sure the respective track info is correct.

I suppose I'm lucky though, I haven't had any catastrophic events happen. Although the fact that I even have to say that......
