Guitar Hero 2 Is Awesome

Post by Stark »

The end.

I'm not a huge fan of the track list: they're pretty raw covers (the Danzig cover is terrible), and it's not as broad as the selection on GH1. That said, the system is fixed, it has progressive mode (it doesn't look like shit on HDTVs anymore), it has audio delay config (my HD setup is 10ms behind, for instance), and the models and graphics overall are improved. Way more unlockable shit. Cooler guitars. The Elvis guy is awesome, and Clive now looks like Jesus.

So if only the songs had a bit more charisma. There's nothing as awesome as Godzilla, and that's a shame. Bring on the Singstar-esque expansion CDs, say I. And their excuses for the lack of co-op career are retarded.

I did notice that there are a few bad covers, the Danzig one especially, but also Killing in the Name and Heart-shaped Box, but all in all it's much better than the original, and that's saying a hell of a lot.

I noticed a local GAME held a compo for the title by having people come in and prove their skills in order to win a real guitar. Looked fun, though with this new air guitar T-shirt it's really quite redundant now.

Supposedly their reasoning for the terrible vocals in so many of the songs is they wanted to emphasize the fact that you're supposed to be in a cover band. Personally, I think this is a pretty lame excuse. I'd rather feel like I'm playing in or with the actual group than some weekend garage band with a shit vocalist.

That's a bullshit ad-hoc justification. If they wanted to emphasize the cover band aspect, why were the covers of the other songs so good?
