Retailers Break Wii Games Launch Date...

Post by Spanky The Dolphin »

So Uts and I picked up our first Wii game tonight:

Yeah, I know, but the YouTube gameplay videos sold us. :P

The basic gist is that some EB/GameStops have decided to sell a number of third-party Wii games four days early. We could have also picked up Metal Slug Anthology and Rayman Raving Rabbids, but we already reserved those two weeks ago along with the console at Toys R Us. They also mentioned that all pre-orders for Red Steel were sold out.

Oh poo, and all I have for my Wii is RE4, Eternal Darkness, a Wavebird, GC memory card, and the Legend of Zelda limited edition wiimote covers. :P

It's been known for a while that only first-party Wii games actually have a launch date embargo.

Kind of related- I saw Tony Hawk for the PS3 at Video Games Etc. last week. talk about early shipping.

Uts and I once rented the first Budokai game a few years ago, and the experience was terrible. I think we only played a couple of rounds before turning it off because it was almost impossible to play comfortably: like staging a cockfight with walruses . Good thing we rented Guilty Gear XX the same night and bought it soon after...

Fortunately the Sparking/Tenkaichi series seems so much better.

What's that pink thing on the right? A promo freebie?

Could you post some pics of the inside of the box and disc? Anything interesting in the manual?

It's a remote skin.

Yeah, it's a remote skin, made by a third party company but fully endorsed by Nintendo. Uts got a black one as well, and I'm using the wrist strap that came with mine on my DS, which is also pink. We thought it would be a good idea to pick a couple up to help personalise our remotes until Nintendo gets around to releasing coloured ones, and at ten dollars each were in our budget.

Here's a scan of the disc art, Bounty:

Image

The interior of the case it pretty much like a standard DVD case, white and with tabs on the interior of the spine for an optional second disc tray. Above the disc is an embossed Wii logo.

There isn't really much of particular note in the manual, that wasn't already explained in a control demonstration video we found on YouTube, though it goes over the various control movements pretty easily, with little thumbnail graphics. Uts was pretty happy to see Mr. Popo listed in the voice credits (most likely for the adventure portion; we already knew he wasn't a playable character), and I was happy to see that it listed the option to switch the characters' language to Japanese.
