Hey, it'd be awesome if they played the stupid absurd boring radio convos over the controller, so the game is still going and you're like 'uh huh, get to the good bit... wait, what was that? Shit, what? Argh a guard!' :)

I've seen nothing to indicate that MGS4 graphics have been "downgraded", it still looks very pretty. Could the Wii handle it? Erm- no. Would they bother making a downgraded port for the Wii? Probably not. It'd be a massive pain in the ass.

As for having the boring-ass expositionary conversations over the Wiimote- the Wiimote speaker is, IIRC, not the best quality. Doesn't seem like a good idea.

Vymp baby, having those conversations isn't a good idea ANYWAY. MGS 1&2 taught me to love my triangle button like a woman, and even then I started at the text screen for more than an hour to finish the game. But yes, reports are that the speaker is quite shockingly bad, even for the simple 'twang' shit it's doing now.

Japanese game devs need to stop doing that shit.

Since I am clueless, is MGS4 still going to waste the engine and all the effort to render a scene by making it top-down? It was a stupid idea in MGS, and it's not getting any better as time goes by.

With regard to the speaker apparently its volume can be turned down and the quality becomes far better (if not as loud obviously).

I thought I made my view clear with the "boring-ass expeditionary dialog" comment :)

Heck, that comment isn't entirely accurate. It's less expeditionary dialog and more long-winded, presumptive, tedious, preachy verbal diarrhea which sounds like it came from worst script known to man.

I mean honestly ...

"This is a sneaking mission!"

This little kiddy phrase was cute back when this was a fucking NES game. Now it just sounds retarded. Grow the fuck up, Hideo.

"Do you think love can bloom on the battlefield?"

If I had a dollar for everytime someone says "on the battlefield" preceded or followed by something mind-boggingly retarded in MGS, I'd be a rich man.

I'm unsure. Possibly. I've yet to see any pure gameplay videos.

I give MGS the biggest pass in all of the games I like to play. It's just so incredibly bad in terms of script and design choices (all the fucking dialog), but the gameplay, the small portion of which there is, anyway, is very engrossing regardless.

But it's powerful drama to have 'ak ak, before I die I must tell you about my youth in Bosnia and how I hunted wolves and shit or something' and 'zomg the nukz is bad' and 'IS THIS REAL THINK ABOUT IT GUYS' conversations that go for half an hour. Isn't it? :D

Oh, *that's* why I couldn't find any gameplay videos. I'd be really happy if we got an MGS game that finally said goodbye to it's retro 8bit roots. Maybe even an MGS without absurd 8bit boss fights... but that's too much to hope for. :)

I would love to have a game which had conversation including such gems as "IS THIS REAL THINK ABOUT IT GUYS" and "zomg the nukz is bad".

Actually I forgot, apparently, in MGS4 you can use either the new 3rd person 360 degree camera that's a modified version of that introduced in MGS3: Subsistence (never played it, I've only played MGS3)- or the top-down camera. Meh.

I like the bossfights, though. Except for the whole "hit someone in the head 20 times with a pistol and they don't die" thing.

A bigger issue would be that such extended use of the remote speaker would drain the batteries dry...

Still, at least they maybe realise topdown is good for Metal Gear, not good for MGS.

Hey, the bossfights are fun, but they ruin whatever atmosphere the game might have created. Like in MGS3 where you get shot in the head by a crossbow, and see the bolt going right through your head. Your response? DIG IT OUT WITH A KNIFE AND BANDAGE IT.

The sillyness like 'one guy kills big robot with chaff and stingers' is fun, the silliness like 'Russian woman immune to bullets, but with only two possible actions' is not. 8-bit, man, pattern-beating 'invincible for two seconds except at the right part of the pattern' bullshit is CRAP.

So am I the only one that loves the cheesy dialogue then? Come on, we're not expecting Shakespeare here anyway and given the games revolve around monstrous nuke flinging tanks with legs, to say nothing of the freaks that seem to get involved with them, I'm hardly going to complain about gritty realism.

The fact that you knew that bit of nonsense from the Weirdest Moment in Video Gaming Ever is even scarier than the fact I know what you're talking about.

I got it off IMDb.com's quote section for MGS2, don't worry, it didn't burn itself into my memory.

Not to mention that games where the safety of the modern world depends on the outcome of a knock-down drag-out fist fight on the top of said nuclear bipedal tank is just cool. :P
