Google country specific?

Post by salm »

Hi
Everytime i type something in google the first couple of sites listed will be German. I guess google checks my IP finds out that i´m from Germany and provides me with what they think i want.
There are three options to select for searching criteria. That is search the whole web, search for German sites or search for sites from Germany.
I have checked search the whole web.

This is highly annoying. I mean i enter the word "advance" and all sites listed up to page 50 or something are German. What kind of crap is that?

Does anybody know if there´s a solution or workaround for that problem?

Doesn't Google have country specific Google engines? I know there's a Google.jp, Google.de, Google.au, etc. Or is this not quite what you're wanting?

Aye, indeed. When i google from google.com it works fine.
I´ve allways googled from google.de and it didn´t used to be like this. They must have changed that recently.

Damn, could have thought about that myself.

Thanks for the hint.

I guess it could be annoying in German, since you have sites covering almost any topic same as English, however for me and my little language the mechanism works perfectly. Whenever I want something in English it almost never spams me with Croatian stuff and yet, when it is something Croatian I'm looking for it finds it first.

The only really annoying thing about the regionalised stuff is that it only allows you access to google services that they officialy launched in your country, which can be an annoyance when I want, for example, Google News.
