I really dislike the License system. I have yet earned enough gil to purchase Tecnicks. And those little fuckers who suck the energy from the powerswitches. I hate them.

Are mimics supposed to look like treasure chests, or are treasure chests supposed to look like mimics? You'd think they'd design a less insectoid-looking repository for valuables. :P

Most of the technics are worthless. Don't bother with any of them except for Charge and Libra. Telekinesis when you find it.

Just get the random good magic and weapons that you find in the stores, upgrade each time the story line moves.

The best money making area I've found in the early game is the Lhusu Mines that everyone has talked about. The skeletons are plentiful and drop infinite money. Big fan of Bone Fragments.

From what I have found in the semi late game, money isn't really a problem. I can always afford the full 3 person upgrade just going from story line update point to story line update point.

There are two more areas of many, many skeletons.

One is in the Golma jungle after you can go through the barriers. Head south of the village to the next map, and walk around, killing the Courls until they're gone, then you'll find plenty of dead guys.

The next is in the remains of Nabudis, the nation blown away in the intro. The Deadlands has a hidden area called Overlooking Eternity. Shitloads of skeletons there. Perfect for the 50-70 run.

Kill enough of the Mimics, and then read your Bestiary. There is a multipage letter/diary from a scientist/geneticist about the Mimics that explains SO much about them

And that is another nice thing about the Game. Kill a set number of monsters, and you get more information about the cities, places, creatures, politics, history, et al of Ivalice. There's even the history of the Strahl.

He forgets about the Mark that hides there, and how the skeletons mob you as you're dealing with this nasty robotic near-boss.

Speaking of the bestiary, anyone know which entry (if any) mentions Ajora (St. Ajora from FFTactics)?
I heard about it elsewhere but haven't seen it yet.

Be patient in the desert.

Actually, find the patient in the desert. If you went north from Barheim, you'd find it.

I beleive it's on the North Side of the river. If you haven't been able to do that yet, go progress with your quest for a bit.

so what level should I be before I take on the cluckatrice?

(currently all characters are 17th level, with Bal being 18th....)

(which is entirely due to him being the only person not KOed when I got attacked by a rare and was waaaaay too low level to face it.)

(let's just say it was get really lucky with a mist, or reload the game from an hour before, and I got really lucky with that mist)

I took that big chicken out with level 16-18s, but couldn't have done it without using mist charges. Kill the chicks first, before directing all your attention to the big mother.

yeah I hadn't leveled enough when I did the sewer run, and as a result I got attacked by a Neq (uber cocktrice) right in the maze at level 11, At first I didn't, realize it was an uberuntil it had killed all three members of my party, I was out of Pheonix downs, and Bal was up at full health and full mana the thing had half HP left so I tried a mist....

I went for the Cluckatrice at 23lvl. Pulled the chicks all together into a big huddle and unloaded with Quickenings ('mist').

Totally flubbed the timing, didn't get any area effect. Had to do a second time, and got ArkBlast. Dead Birds Everywhere :-D

Oh.. the Rocktroise is easy. When you go back, talk to the Moogle a second time and run get her diary for her. Yes, you can read it, just don't tell her you did. I *highly* suggest reading it -- it will give you second thoughts about shopping in that store for a while

Just that she has a habit of keeping tiny monsters as pets and that they have a habit of getting loose and exposed to Mist. There's even a little basilisk in the shop where she works.

Necro raaaaaaag, but I'm not starting another thread.

Picked up the game and started playing. Why oh why are guns limited to what seems like mustkets? So sad, and I was looking foward to getting Balthier a Walther PPK.

I like the guests, and it's nice that armor selection raises diffrent traits. Shame only the weapon models change not the armor models as well. I can understand it might look a little odd if the princess was running around with heavy mail with spears. Oh well, tweleve hours in and leveing in the mines with the skeletons.

You're not that far into it yet, but it actually explains why. Ivalician technology is actually a fair stride ahead of our own. The reason everyone gets around by chocobo and fights with primitive weapons is that mimic germinites are everywhere, and they're horribly corrosive to complex machinery. They're not a problem above certain altitudes though, so that's why you have OMG future airships bristling with post-modern weaponry.

Personally, I just wanted Balthier to go 'I am the leading man. And this is the leading man's boomstick.'

Balthier's not the main character because he knows the main character takes an inordinate amount of damage. :P
