Hooray for people buying you stuff!
It's a couple of questions related to possible gift ideas (yes, I purposefully wait until late in the year), thought I'd try you guys out. Anyways, I'm having trouble deciding between the 360 and Wii, but I hear MS is coming out with some new 65nm chip next year for the Xbox. Does the chip actually affect the 360 in a significant way, or would getting the Xbox now not make that make that big a difference? Second, looking at getting a new graphics card, something in the $150-200 range, play current games decently and whatnot. Finally, any recommendation for flat-screen HDTVs?

'Ai! ai!' wailed Legolas. 'A Balrog! A Balrog is come!'
Gimli stared with wide eyes. 'Durin's Bane!' he cried, and letting his axe fall he covered his face.
'A Balrog,' muttered Gandalf. 'Now I understand.' He faltered and leaned heavily on his staff. 'What an evil fortune! And I am already weary.'

OK, for the choice of 360 vs. Wii: for the Wii, I think this year is mostly about supply, as in, there ain't many. I have one, it's very fun, and I would suggest it over the 360, but if you can't find one, go with the 360, it's still a good system.
Second, for the video card: wait for DX10-capable cards. They should come out at the same time as Vista.
That is all.

They'll also be really expensive, hot, and power-hungry.Elaro wrote:Second, for the video card: wait for DX10-capable cards. They should come out at the same time as Vista.

DX10 cards are already out (from NVidia at least) not that I'm going to be buying one in the next year, probably.
If MS does go to 65nm parts on the X360, the only difference you'll see is a cooler and less power hungry machine. Maybe.

Right. What I meant was, "wait for DX10 cards which are in your price range". Those shouldn't be too power-hungry. (But you'll probably have to wait until next Christmas for one.)Uraniun235 wrote:They'll also be really expensive, hot, and power-hungry.Elaro wrote:Second, for the video card: wait for DX10-capable cards. Right, and by then he'll come around asking for advice and you'll tell him to wait another few months because a new revision is just around the corner.
