I was unaware that you could even get a Wii on Amazon.

You can't. You just put it on your wish list until they have more in stock.Alferd Packer wrote:I was unaware that you could even get a Wii on Amazon.

Ahhhhhh. So that's how it sells out in less than a minute each time. I'm glad I just went to the Nintendo World Store to get my Wii.

That's pretty sad for Sony. But, honestly, I hope it encourages these companies to look to Nintendo and Microsoft for game platforms. I really love my Wii (and just beat that Zelda game. I don't even like Zelda games, and I enjoyed it a lot) but I wish there were more real games for it. Not just minigames and such.

Remember that the list is updated hourly, and that Amazon updates its stock all at once. That is to say that Amazon sends out emails notifying everyone subscribed that PS3's are in stock again. So everyone floods onto the site, buys, and suddenly it's number 1 for an hour.
That means nothing in the long run, since stock drops to zero units in a matter of moments (on a related note, Wii stock seems to sell out in seconds, according to a forum post by one of the editors, the same is probably true for PS3).
I also note that as of this exact moment, WoW is top and PS3's are out of stock (as usual). So in conclusion, PS3's are still rare and desired. *yawn*

Not really, not a couple weeks ago at any rate.Elessar wrote:So in conclusion, PS3's are still rare and desired. *yawn*
But as for them selling out quick on Amazon, are people that fucking lazy? Why spend your time waiting for a PS3 to come in stock on Amazon, and then maybe not even be quick enough to get one, when you can go into town and buy one in a Wal-Mart or something?

I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in his stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Counciler or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate, who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who constantly says: "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I cannot agree with your methods of direct action"; who paternalistically believes he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by a mythical concept of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait for a "more convenient season."

I thought Amazon processed tax on whatever you buy based on where you live?Soontir C'boath wrote:There is something called a sales tax that they can avoid.Dorsk 81 wrote:Not really, not a couple weeks ago at any rate. Unless the consumer is in those four states, they don't charge tax.Amazon wrote:Items sold by Amazon.com LLC, or its subsidiaries, and shipped to destinations in the states of Kansas, Kentucky, North Dakota, or Washington are subject to tax.

Fair enough; Amazon.ca adds GST on everything and any applicable provincial taxes based on where you have it shipped.Soontir C'boath wrote:Unless the consumer is in those four states, they don't charge tax.Amazon wrote:]Items sold by Amazon.com LLC, or its subsidiaries, and shipped to destinations in the states of Kansas, Kentucky, North Dakota, or Washington are subject to tax.

Maybe people just aren't so keen on getting a PS3 as soon as humanly possible?Dorsk 81 wrote:Not really, not a couple weeks ago at any rate.Elessar wrote:So in conclusion, PS3's are still rare and desired. *yawn*

For the same reasons a lot of people buy online: convenience.Dorsk 81 wrote:Not really, not a couple weeks ago at any rate.

In addition, Amazon.com can email you (as I described by the email subscription) when stock is at hand, instead of phoning around or driving to shops. And well, it's unlikely that folks purchasing at this time in the year need the PS3 now. Two days isn't very long for Amazon Prime customers to wait, and both the launch date and the Holiday Season are long past.
As for the news link... well, if Amazon is still sold out regularly at this time, you decide whether it's rarity, demand, or strange combination of both. The fact stands.
