Guitar Hero comes to DS and Wii

Activision's rhythm game phenomenon looks like it is headed to Nintendo's motion-sensing console; DS version also appears to be planned.

Though the litigation-inspiring Guitar Hero controller already has some limited motion-sensing functionality, it appears it is about to get much more. Buried in yesterday's Activision conference call was an easily missed nugget of info that will literally be music to Nintendo fans' ears: It looks like Guitar Hero is coming to the Wii--and the Nintendo DS.

Speaking to analysts following a robust preliminary earnings report, Activision Publishing president and CEO Mike Griffith laid out some of his company's plans for its 2008 fiscal year. Much like its archrival Electronic Arts, the Santa Monica, California-based publisher is ramping up support for Nintendo's two popular platforms.

"In fiscal 2008, we'll double our offerings on DS and the Wii," said Griffith, "including Spiderman, Shrek, Transformers, and Guitar Hero." (Emphasis added.)

Unfortunately, that was all Griffith said regarding the DS and Wii Guitar Heroes, meaning they could come out any time between April 1, 2007 and March 31, 2008. Presumably, Tony Hawk studio NeverSoft will be handling development of one or both titles.
The way the article reads, I'm not sure Activision is saying that the game will hit the Wii and DS, but this is interesting all the same. It could be excellent on the Wii, but I'm not sure that a DS version is the right direction.

EDIT: Perhaps it would help to translate the emphasis if they're going to write "emphasis added."

So, now I have even more reason to get a Wii? Damn it, they are still impossible to find in the stores.

Pffft buy a DS online like everyone else. :)

And the article suggests 2008, which is a little longer than I'm willing to wait for GH on Wii. Someone better give me GH2 with GH1 tracks before I buy a 360! :)

I dislike ordering expensive (anything more than $100) items online. Plus, all of my typical outlets have the DS Lite on backorder anyway, and I won't use eBay. :(

Playasia.com has stock on all the colours I could be bothered checking. I'm not suggesting eBay (ugh) but I've ordered plenty of stuff from places like Playasia and got my stuff really fast. Their warranty guys and customer service is better than that of chain stores in my area - they replaced defective hardware when it wasn't really covered by warranty.

It's funny. I got my DS Lite in June when it was released. I just walked into the first GAME in Manchester, and bought one. The problem was finding Metroid Prime: Hunters, but that store had it while all others sold out.

Looks like people started rushing for the units after I got mine at launch.

I'm tempted by this, but more so by the Xbox 360 version, as that will have downloadable songs covering at least the first two game soundtracks, and maybe beyond. Which is a no brainer feature, but nice to see that they have realised it is there.
