Xbox 360 Video Compatibility

Post by Dorsk 81 »

Does anyone know a way to get a 360 to play video files other than .wmv's? I finally decided to try out the whole Media Connectivity thing today and found I can view all my pictures, listen to all my music, and watch .wmv's just fine, but no can do with .avi, .mpg, etc.

Not that I'm aware of. I just use WinAVI to convert any video file I want to watch into a wmv.

Transcode 360 works excellent to stream everything from the computer to the Xbox and you can organize and view all your movies in folders. You might also want to try Tversity. It lets you play all files as well but I gave it up since in the current version it bundles all files together, and as far as I could figure out I'd have to reclassify them one by one using their software.

Hmm, Transcode 360 needs XP Media Center, I assume Tversity is the same? I've only got Home Edition.

I've already got an unregistered version of AVS Media Converter, so converting to .wmv isn't a problem, even if it does leave a stupid mark on all the videos, but it's a pain in the ass to do. It took over an hour to convert a 45min 350mb .avi to .wmv today.
